Abstract

A toothbrush that stores toothpaste in the handle 1, 2 forming a single unit. The toothpaste is forced onto the brush 8 from the handle by the piston 4 which is activated by the rotation of the spindle knob 3. The flow of the toothpaste is controlled by the pressure valve 10 situated at the base of the bristles in the brush. To stop the flow of the toothpaste, stop rotating the spindle knob. The toothbrush can be operated manually or electrically. The handle can be detachable and replaceable or refilled with toothpaste.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
COMBINATION TOOTH BRUSH This invention combines a toothbrush and toothpaste in a single unit.
At present tooth brushes and toothpaste are usually purchased and kept separately, and toothpaste tubes in particular, lead to inconvenience.
They take up extra space. The tops of the tubes may become messy or get lost.
Different people may have communal use of a single tube and conflict tends to arise over the state in which people leave the tube, it's location, and over matters of hygiene generally.
The object of this invention is to produce a toothbrush, which is easy to use in either manual as shown in Fig 1 or electrical form as illustrated in Fig 3, where the simple rotation of a projection at the base 3 of the handle 1,2, will release toothpaste into the brush 8.
The brush 8 will be quick and convenient to use and to carry (e. g. parties, meetings, schools etc..), and will remain a wholly personal item.
It will be useful and attractive to both adults and children and can be produced in pocket size as shown in Fig 4.
The tooth paste is stored in a handle 1,2 and when pressure is applied to the valve (diaphragm with tappets 10) by rotating spindle knob 3, which moves the piston 4 in direction to the brush 8 allowing the paste opening the valve 10 into the head 8 (with the outlet), to stream out the brush head 8.
To stop the tooth paste flow just stop rotating the spindle 3. The spindle 3 is held by the nut 5, safety ring 6, and disc 7. This process is better illustrated in detail in Fig 2 showing the valve operation.
This invention can be manufactured in different materials of which a hard plastic is at present the most suitable. There are a few constraints on the shape of the handle so long as it is comfortable to hold and can accommodate sufficient toothpaste within. The material may be given a transparent window or decorated to taste. The available options are to supply either a tooth brush to be disposed when the tooth paste supply has been used up, which would be appropriate for a brush with a design short life, or else to provide refillable models when empty of tooth paste, as illustrated in Fig 4.

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A tooth brush incorporating toothpaste within its handle fitted with a mechanical device for delivering the tooth paste as required into the area of the brush.
  2. 2. A tooth brush as claimed in Claim 1 in which the release of tooth paste is allowed by a valve opening under pressure and the supply is interrupted by the valve closing when the pressure is removed.
  3. 3. A tooth brush as claimed in Claims I and 2 where the pressure to the valve is applied by a rotating spindle knob allows the tooth paste to stream out to the brush.
  4. 4. A tooth brush as claimed in any of the preceding claims in which the brush is operated manually or electrically.
  5. 5 A tooth brush as claimed in any preceding claim which is made of plastic or metal or combination of these.
  6. 6. A tooth brush as herein described of any shape or character appropriate to accommodate a sufficient supply of toothpaste.
  7. 7. A tooth brush is claimed to be disposable when the tooth paste supplied in the handle has been used up Alternatively, it can be refilled when empty.
  8. 8. A tooth brush substantially as herein described herein with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
