Abstract

A roll of transparent film 1 for use in goggles with a roller holder mechanism is thickened, indented or projected 2 at one or more points along its internal surface (that is the surface in contact with the goggles lens 3) so as to prevent moisture creating surface tension between the lens and film and the film becoming stuck to the lens. The film barrel 8 has a flange 4 at either end, placed so that the film 1 will sit correctly in place across the goggles tens 3 and avoiding the need for the user to guide the film into place. The bottom end of the barrel 5 is shaped with six projecting points and scored across, so as to fit into all roll holder mechanism barrel fittings 9 currently available (see fig.2).

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
EASY FITTING IRREGULAR SURFACE FILMS FOR USE WITH ROLLER MECHANISM GOGGLES This invention relates to a design of eye safety wear (goggles), and specifically the roll off films used on roller mechanism goggles for use in motocross and other activities.
Those who take part in motocross experience the problem of not being able to maintain clear vision throughout the length of a race. Many riders use goggles with a roll off mechanism which is fitted onto the goggles and comprises of a roll holder 6 attached to each side of the goggles lens 3, and a roll of transparent film I which is transferred from one side of the lens to the other by way of a pull cord mechanism 7. When using a roll off strip mechanism, the strip of film 1 becomes stuck to the lens 3 if any moisture, whether from rain, mud splashes, sweat, oil released from the film itself or other sources gets between the lens and film strip.
Once this has happened, when the pull cord is used the film strip 1 does not transfer from one side of the goggles to the other as designed, and the pull cord therefore snaps as a result of the pull cord action failing. This then leaves the rider unable to clear his view, with the strip of film 1 either broken or fixed at the point it became stuck.
Replacement rolls 1 can be awkward and time consuming to fit as the film roll must be manually fitted to be in the correct placement across the goggles lens 3. This is because the film 1 is not fixed in place on the barrel dz Not all goggles have the same barrel fitting 9 for the film barrel 8 and so although many riders own more than one set off goggles they must buy a different makes of film roll I where these have different fitting$.
This invention modifies the system for transferable roller film 1 used on goggles, by reshaping the film so that it is thickened 2 along the length of the film, at one or more points on the films internal surface. This means that contact between the film 1 and lens 3 is not constant. Moisture between the lens and strip of film creates a surface tension, and the irregular film surface 2 prevents this from occurring, so allowing the removable film to move freely. Wire or some other material fitted constantly at one or more points along the film will also achieve the required effect, as would any form of indentation or projection on the film surface.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
To improve the process of fitting replacement films 1 the barrel 8 holding the film roll is fitted with two guides 4, one at each end so as to make the film roll automatically sit in the correct position when placed in the roll holder 6. These guides take the form of an increase in the width of the circular shape of the barrel 8 at the two points where the film 1 needs to sit between. It is intended that these be produced as an integral part of the barrel, from the same plastic mould, although it could also be done as a separate part attached to the barrel.
The barrel ends 5 are designed to fit both circular roller holders with a horizontal projection in the barrel fitting 9 and six pointed roll holders, by using the six pointed shape that is then scored through its center. These allows both roll holder designs 9 to drive the film roll 1
when the pull cord is used so allowing the film roll to be used in all types of goggles.
Figure 1 Shows the front section of the film fitted in the roll holders and across the goggles lens. lens.
Figure 2 Shows the end of the film barrel.
Figure 3 Shows a cross section of the film when fitted across the lens.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A design of film for use with goggles which incorporates removable film rolls, where that film has a raised, thickened or indented area, on its internal surface, so preventing films becoming stuck to the lens when moisture gets between the lens and removable film.
  2. 2. A design of barrel onto which removable film roll is held for use in a roll holder mechanism goggles, where that barrel has a guide at the top and bottom of the film placement so as to ensure that the film roll is correctly placed across the goggles lens surface.
  3. 3. A design of barrel onto which removable film is held for use in roll holder mechanism goggles where that barrel is shaped with a six pointed wheel fitting, and scored across its center so as to enable the film roll to be fitted into all brands of goggles.
