Abstract

The invention proposes a wiring harness plug (1) for establishing an electrical plug-in connection with a plug connector, comprising a housing (2) and a contact strip (3) disposed in the housing as well as an annular seal (7) on the end of the wiring harness plug directed towards the plug connector for sealing the electrical plug-in connection between the wiring harness plug (1) and the plug connector, wherein a retaining lip (10) is provided on the wiring harness plug (1) for the purpose of fixing the seal (7). The retaining lip (10) holds the seal (7) against the wall (6) and prevents displacement of the seal (7) in the opposite direction to plug-in direction while the wiring harness plug (1) is being introduced into a plug connector in order to establish an electrical plug-in connection. The housing (2) of the wiring harness plug (1) and the retaining lip (10) advantageously form an integral part, so that easy and inexpensive manufacture is possible.

Description

lo Wiring harness Clue having a retaining lip designed for a seal The
invention relates to a wiring harness plug for establishing an electrical plug-in connection with a plug 15 connector, comprising a housing and a contact strip disposed in the housing as well as an annular seal on the end of the wiring harness plug directed towards the plug connector for sealing the electrical plug-in connection between the wiring harness plug and the plug connector.
Prior art
Wiring harness plugs of the above type, for sealing the electrical plugin connection between a wiring harness plug and a plug connector coupled to the wiring harness plug, 25 have a seal in order to prevent moisture, dirt or the like from penetrating between the wiring harness plug and the plug connector.
In an embodiment, it is provided that the wiring harness 30 plug comprises a housing with a defined cross section and that provided inside the housing, and projecting from the housing, is a contact strip with a cross section, which is smaller than the cross section of the wiring harness plug.
A shoulder is therefore formed between the housing and the 35 contact strip projecting from the housing. Abutting said shoulder is an end face of the seal, wherein said seal extends almost over the entire wall of the contact strip projecting from the housing.
Drawbacks of prior art
During the plugging-in process, in the embodiment known from prior art, the seal during the plugging-in process
slips off at an edge of the plug connector so that the seal 5 is turned over the shoulder. As a result, functionally appropriate use of the seal is no longer guaranteed.
Particularly at locations, where the plug-in connection to be established is hidden from view, there is a risk of such 10 plug-in connections being established and of contact difficulties or even contact damage occurring at a later time. There is also a risk of the seal becoming damaged and 15 allowing moisture and dirt to- penetrate into the plug-in connection. Object of the invention The object of the invention is therefore to design the seal 20 guiding and/or holding device of a wiring harness plug in a way that prevents detachment of the seal from the wiring harness plug during establishment of a plug-in connection.
Achievement of the object 25 The principle of the achievement of the object is that a retaining element is to be provided, by means of which the seal is held in its correct position during the process of coupling to a plug connector.
30 In order to achieve the object, it is therefore proposed to provide a retaining lip on the wiring harness plug for the purpose of fixing the seal.
Advantages of the invention 35 An important advantage of the invention is that, during the process of coupling wiring harness plug and plug connector in order to establish an electrical connection, the seal
provided for said purpose remains in the correct position and shape. Because of the arrangement of the retaining lip, even in the event of skew mounting onto the plug connector the seal remains in the intended position.
The retaining lip may comprise a clip-like construction, wherein one side is firmly connected to the wiring harness plug. By virtue of the cliplike construction, which extends in plug-in direction, the seal may easily be pushed 10 on counter to the plug-in direction until the retaining lip partially encompasses the seal.
Another advantageous construction of the retaining lip comprises a groove, which extends round the entire 15 circumference of the wiring harness plug and is designed in such a way that one end face of the seal is almost fully supported in said groove. It is thereby guaranteed that during the coupling process the seal will not be pushed out of said groove, thereby guaranteeing a functionally 20 appropriate arrangement of the seal.
Further advantageous developments of the apparatus according to the invention arise from the following description, the claims and the drawings.
Drawings: The drawings show: Fig. 1 a side view of the wiring harness plug according 30 to the invention with annular seal; Fig. 2 a section through the wiring harness plug according to Fig.1 with a retaining lip according to the invention;
Fig. 3 an enlarged view of the retaining lip according to Fig. 2, which is disposed on the wiring harness plug.
5 Description of an embodiment
Figs. 1 and 2 show a wiring harness plug 1, which comprises a housing 2, wherein disposed inside the housing 2 is a contact strip 3, which extends in plug-in direction 4 of 10 the wiring harness plug 1 beyond the latter's housing 2.
Furthermore, the cross section Q2 of the contact strip 3 is smaller than the cross section Q1 of the housing 2 of the wiring harness plug 1, thereby producing a shoulder 5 between the housing 2 and the contact strip 3.
The contact strip 3 (as shown in Fig. 2) has on the part projecting from the housing 2 a wall 6, on which a seal 7 is disposed. The seal 7 surrounds the entire wall 6 of the contact strip 3.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, the seal 7 is disposed in a recess 8. Thus, the end faces Sa and 9b of the seals in each case abut the edges of the recess 8.
25 In an embodiment not illustrated in the drawings, only one edge is provided, wherein said edge is provided at the transition between the wall 6, the contact strip 3 and the housing 2 30 When the wiring harness plug 1 is inserted in the direction of the arrow 4 into a plug connector, the seal 7 is subject to forces acting in the opposite direction to the plug-in direction (arrow direction 4). Consequently, the seal 7 as such is pushed out of the recess 8.
The shoulder 5 formed in the region of the transition between the contact strip 3 and the housing 2 has a
retaining lip 10 according to the invention The retaining lip 10 is of a groove-like construction and in its cross section is so dimensioned that it almost totally encompasses the one end face 9a of the seal 7, with the 5 result that a displacement of the seal 7 in the opposite direction to the plug-in direction (arrow direction 4) is not possible.
The retaining lip 10 advantageously forms an integral part with the housing 2 of the wiring harness plug 1. The retaining lip 10 may therefore be provided directly in the injection-moulded part of the housing 2, with the result that easy manufacture is possible.
