Abstract

237,817. Heppell, W. J. Feb. 3, 1925. Resistance to propulsion, reducing.-On ships utilizing air under pressure for reducing resistance to propulsion guide members forming channels with the hull, are placed at the after run of the boat which by suction induce a flow of water to the propeller and collect and divert the air passing along the midships guides away from the propeller. Air supplied to the bottom of the ship and confined by bilge guide members b flows up the main after guides a which terminate at about the level d of the propeller shaft. Extra after guides f are fitted to collect the air and direct it up away from the propeller whilst water is induced direct to the propeller from outside the main guides. The guides are formed of bulb, plate or angle members.
