Abstract

A golfing tool 1 comprises a cradle 2 which supports the grip of a golf club rested upon it, a ground engaging end which allows the cradle end to maintain the golf club grip above the ground, and a central portion having a golf shoe spike tightening key. The key may comprise spaced projections (4, fig. 2) extending from the central portion, and the ground engaging end may be a pitch repairing fork. The tool may have means for carrying a detachable ball marker disc 5, comprising arms (8, fig. 2), provided within the spaced projections (4, fig. 2), which grip the central boss (6, fig. 4) of the marker disc. The boss (6, fig. 4) may have a raised collar (7, fig. 4) which prevents it from being pulled axially from the arms, and the tool may have an arcuate recess 9 provided on a side opposite the spike key which allows the marker disc to be prised out of the holding arms.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
The present invention concerns golfing accessories. The average golfer not only has to carry a heavy set of clubs but also frequently a number of other items which can prove to be useful during a round of golf The purpose of the present invention is to provide a single accessory which is compact, light and relatively inexpensive but which can nevertheless provide a number of useful functions.
On item often carried by a golfer is a small fork-like device which is used to repair divot marks during a round. Another frequently carried device is a small key used to tighten the studs of special golfing shoes. Yet another item carried during a round of golf is a ball-marker used to mark the position of a ball on a green when the ball has to be moved.
Additionally a golfer who is carrying his or her own clubs cannot actually leave the bag of clubs on the putting surface of a green. However he or she may wish to lay a club on a ground whilst for example studying the line of a put. If the ground is damp the golfer obviously prefers the handle of the club not to come into contact with the damp ground and often uses a tee to support the club handle above the ground. Thus the present invention is concerned with providing a golf accessory which can fulfil at least some of the above mentioned functions.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a golf accessory comprising a main body having at one end a head on which the grip of a golf club can be supported and so configured at its other end that the main body can be inserted into the ground in a manner similar to a golf tee whereby the head can support the grip of a golf club above
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
the ground, and wherein the central portion of the main body is provided with a key for tightening spikes on golf shoes.
The key may comprise a pair of spaced projections extending from the main body.
Additionally the other end of the main body is forked so that the forked end can also be used as a divot repairing implement.
The accessory may also include a detachable ball marker in the form of a circular disc.
In order that the present invention may be more readily understood an embodiment thereof will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a golf accessory according to the present invention, Figure 2 is a similar view showing only the main body of the golfing accessory, Figure 3 is a side view of the accessory of Figure 1, and Figure 4 is a side view of a ball marker which forms part of the accessory of Figure 1.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows a golf accessory which can provide a number of different functions. The accessory comprises a main body 1 made of stainless steel though of course any other suitable tough rust-resistant material may be employed One end of the main body 1 acts as the head of the body and is provided with a curved recess 2 having a radius of curvature roughly similar to that of the grip of a golf club. This head is adapted to support the grip of a golf club when the other end of the
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
main body 1 is stuck into the ground in a manner similar to a tee. Thus a golfer can rest the golf club grip in the raised head so that the grip will not get wet if the ground is damp.
Previously golfers have used tees for this purpose.
The other end of the main body 1 is bifurcated at 3 so that this end not only provides the tip which is driven into the ground to support a golf club but ca also be used as a fork for repairing divot marks. Again it has been common for golfers to carry a special tool for this purpose alone.
As is shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 and more clearly in Figure 2 the centre portion of the main body 1 is formed with a pair of projections 4. These two projections 4 are dimensioned so that they can function as a tool for tightening spikes on golf shoes,
another tool which is often carried by golfers.
As shown in Figure 1 the main body 1 carries a disc 5 which can be detached from the main body 1 so as to act as a ball marker. The side view of Figure 4 shows that the ball marker 5 has a short central boss 6 of circular cross section the projecting end of which is stepped to provide a collar 7 of increased diameter. It will be seen that between the projections 4 the main body 1 is provided with a pair of short arms or projections 8 which are considerably shorter that the projections 4. These short arms have a degree of resilience and between them define a substantially semi-circular recess sized to fit the
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
boss 6 on the marker disc 5. In order to mount the ball marker onto the main body 1 the boss 6 is forcibly fitted into this semi-circular recess where it is held against axial movement by the collar 7 engaging the projections 4. In order to enable a used readily to detach the ball marker 5 from its mounted position on the main body 1 the latter is formed with an arched indentation or recess 9 so that a small arc of the rim of the ball marker 5 stands proud of the main body 1 as best can be appreciated from Figure 3. This enables the ball marker 5 to be removed by exerting pressure with a finger in the direction of arrow A in Figure 1.
Preferably the accessory just described is made from polished stainless steel but as mentioned any other suitable hard wearing material can be used.
