Abstract
A spacer 1 is used to fix the position of a central heating radiator composed of sections 8 with respect to a wall 2. The spacer 1 has at least one cone-like face 4 which provides a gap that engages the fin 6 of the radiator-section 8 which is wider at the periphery. Face 5 may have an overall diameter which is smaller than that of face 5. The spacer 1 maybe made from wood, plastics or a composite material and is secured to the wall 2 by a screw 3.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO IMPROVEMENTS IN RADIATOR MOUNTINGS The mounting of aluminium sectional radiators commonly comprises brackets, fitted under the top waterway, supporting the weight of the radiators with further brackets under the bottom waterway also spacing and securing the radiator. As these bottom brackets require exact positioning and are redundant for weight carrying they prove to be unnecessarily complicated and time consuming in fitting. More recently the bottom brackets have been replaced by a cylindrical radiator spacer having a parallel-faced flange which fits into the gaps between the rear fins of adjacent radiator sections. The radiator rear section fins are slid between the spacer and its parallel flange as the radiator is suspended on its top brackets.
The narrow gap between the spacer and its flange used to retain the fins of the radiator snugly make the location of the radiator in the narrow gap difficult while lowering the sometimes heavy radiator onto its top brackets. It is the object of the present invitation to obviate or overcome the above problems.
According to the present invention there is provided a cylindrical radiator spacer having at least one of its fin retaining faces conical providing a larger gap between the retaining faces at their perimeter reducing towards the centre thus easing location of the fins when mounting the radiator.
Advantageously both fin retaining faces are conical having a larger gap between the faces at the perimeter reducing towards the centre to ease location of the fins when mounting the radiator.
Although the present invention is described in a cylindrical form it should be understood that this does not preclude the use of other forms having tapering faces with larger gaps at their outer locating edge tapering towards its centre to facilitate fin location.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Although the present invention in described with straight conical retainer faces this does not preclude the use of spherical tapering retaining faces.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a plan cross section showing the spacer 1 and the radiator sections 8.
The spacer 1 is retained against the wall 2 by screw 3. The radiator locating face closest to the wall 4 or/and the locating face furthest from the wall 5 and which individually or together form the present invention have a larger gap at the perimeter reducing to the spacers centre to ease the location of the radiator fins 6 between the radiator locating faces 4 and 5. Although the spacer is shown having a long screw reaching from the outer face of the spacer 7 it should be understood that if the gap between the rear radiator fins 6 is large enough the screw could be recessed towards the wall end of the spacer enabling shorter screws to be used.
To further facilitate location the outer radiator locating face flange may be made slightly smaller in diameter than the main body of the spacer 1 as shown in this drawing.
The spacer may be conveniently made from injection moulded or turned plastic or die caste metal. Although described as a single component it should be understood that it may also be formed in multiple parts by, for example, the above means or metal stampings.
Claims (4)
- CLAIMS 1. A radiator spacer having at least one of its fin retaining faces conical providing a larger gap between the retaining faces at their perimeter reducing towards the centre thus easing location of the radiator fins when mounting the radiator.
- 2. A radiator spacer according to Claim 1 having shapes between its retaining faces other than conical that provide a pair of tapering fin retaining faces with larger gaps at their outer tapering edge reducing towards the centre to facilitate location.
- 3. A radiator space in any preceding claim which is made from plastic, metal, wood or composite material.
- 4. A radiator spacer substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawer.
