Abstract

A service is provided that facilitates the transfer of items with controlled transferability and transportation status. The service facilitates electronic communication between owners, consumers and intermediaries such as retailers and wholesalers who are authorized to transfer and transport the controlled items. Owners who wish to sell such items may promote their item on an advertising site, an auction site, or a general listings site. Owners may also conduct a personal transaction via a service provider. Upon the agreement of a sale of an item between an owner and a consumer, the service provider may then electronically communicate with the retailers and wholesalers to arrange the physical transfer of the item form owner to consumer in exchange for payment.
