Abstract

Training equipment for exercising and strengthening the deep muscles of the spine, the vertebral joints and for posture correction, comprises a support frame 1, 2, 3, hand pedals 8, foot pedals 10, two pairs of cranks 7 rotating about horizontal axes 4, 5 and attached to pairs of connecting rods 9, 11, and a mechanism for adjusting the training load. The pedals are attached to the connecting rods, possibly adjustably, and the distal ends of the connecting rods move along guide members 12 as the cranks rotate around the horizontal axes 4, 5. The angle of the guides 12 relative to the support frame may be adjustable and the direction of rotation may be switched between forward and reverse. The arrangement of a crank and connecting rod between the axis of rotation and the pedal imparts an elliptical motion to the pedals. The hand and foot pedal mechanisms have kinematic connection with a 1:1 gear ratio and the pedal levers 8, 10 may be in phase or 180{ apart. The positions of the pedal mechanisms on the support frame 3 may be adjustable to suit different sized users and the angle of the support frame 3 may also be adjustable.

Description

Trainer for exercising deep muscles of spin and strengthening the vertebral joints and for posture correction.
The Trainer being patented relates to training equipment for use in sport and in medicine as a mechanical-therapy device for exercising and strengthening deep muscles of spine, the vertebral joints and for posture correction.
Patent certificate of Russia No. 2155622 Cl RU, 26.04. 1999y. discloses a training device which consists of a supporting unit, a foot and hand pedals and a mechanism for adjusting the training load.
The shortcoming of this well-known trainer is its incapability to provide exercising of deep muscles of spine to the full extent.
The principal purpose of this invention is the creation of a simple Trainer for intensive exercising deep muscles of spinal column in most natural to an extremities-ellipsoidal movement, Trainer, which has facility to provide imitation of movement uphill or downhill in a horizontal spine position.
The technical result of this invention, described in Formula, which comprising: a support unit, two pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms, foot supports and hand adapters, and a mechanism for adjusting the training load, being achieved because by the fact that: the support unit is constructed in two sections: a bench and weight bars, weight bars being secured to the bench at a specified angle to the horizontal with capability of tilting up and down and fixing; two pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms-upper and lower being secured at the weight bars, upper pair of crank-con-rod mechanism's axle and lower pair of crank-con-rod mechanism's axle have kinematic connection with a 1: 1 gear ratio and the switch mechanism for switching between forward and reverse transmission of rotation and for independent rotation of pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms ; upper and lower pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms being moveable and their positions being adjustable with subsequent fixing along the weight bars; each pair of cranks can be fixed to axle in one direction from the axle or at 180 degrees to one another; foot supports being secured to the con-rods of lower crank-con-rods mechanisms and being moveable along the con-rods with subsequent fixing; hand adapters being secured to the con-rods of upper crank-con-rods mechanisms and being moveable along the con-rods with subsequent fixing; con-rod guides being secured with capability of tilting and fixing horizontally or at a specified angle to the horizontal.
Securing the weight bars to the bench at a specified angle to the horizontal provides horizontal spine position, what relieves the vertebral discs from the pressure caused by the weight of the user.
The capability of changing the tilt angle of weight bars relatively to horizontal and subsequent fixing provides for trainee choice of more comfortable spine position.
Crank-con-rod mechanisms provide ellipsoidal-more fluent and natural movement of extremities and enhance lengthwise component of extremities'efforts, that provide intensive exercising of deep muscles of spinal column.
The possibility of tilting and fixing the con-rod guides between horizontal and at a specified angle to the horizontal positions provides imitation of movement uphill or downhill in a horizontal spine position, degree of tilt determines steepness of an ascent and descent that makes diversification of exercises and provides intensive exercising of spine deep muscles as well.
The kinematic connection between the upper and lower pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms with the 1: 1 gear ratio creates (via foot supports and hand adapters) a synchronized, cyclical effect on the spinal column which has the effect of twisting along the longitudinal axle of the spine and of bending the spine, so exercising and strengthening the muscles of the spinal column and the vertebral joints.
The possibility of moving foot supports and hand adapters along con-rods and subsequent fixing increases the choice of movement trajectory of the arms and legs-rectilinear, ellipsoidal or circular, widens the range for exercising the musculoskeletal system, making the Trainer more universal.
The mechanism for switching between forward and reverse transmission of rotation and for independent movement of pars of crank-con-rod mechanisms creates eight types of movement, depending on the choice of combinations : - starting angle position of the upper and lower pairs of cranks-in phase or 180 degrees to each other, - forward or reverse rotation transmission, - direction of crank-con-rods rotation.
This significantly widens the scope of the Trainer for exercising and strengthening the deep muscles of spine.
Possibility of adjusting the distance between foot supports and hand adapters allows to take into consideration the users height, increases the choice of starting angle positions of the arms and legs in relation to the spine of user, widens the range of exercising the muscles and joins of spine.
The possibility of attaching the pairs of upper and lower cranks in one direction from the axles adds two more types of exercise: gallop and backward gallop.
Thus the Trainer being patented provides for the following benefits: - exercising with consideration the users height and physical ability, - good training load for general physical well being, for maintaining vitality, - more natural tracing of fluent ellipsoidal movement of animal extremities, that enhance lengthwise component of extremities'efforts and provides intensive exercising of the deep muscles of spinal column, - the possibility of imitation of movement uphill or downhill also provides better exercising of spine deep muscles,
- twisting effect on the axis of the spine and a bending effect, that strengthens and exercises the vertebral joints and the muscles of spine, it helps posture correction as well, - massage of viscera-by user's thighs vertical movement when pedaling, - development of movement coordination and of the vestibulum, - elimination of slouch, - developing of chest.
Thus, the Trainer being patented provides a wide range of effects on the musculoskeletal system, ensure prophylaxis and elimination of spine distortion and other direct or side problems of musculoskeletal system.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and not in any limited sense with reference to the accompany drawing in which:

The Trainer being patented Fig. I comprising a support unit: bench and weight bars, bench consists of horizontal elements (1) and support device (2), weight bars (3) secured to the bench at a specified angle to the horizontal, two crank-con-rod mechanisms-upper (4) and lower (5) being secured to the weight bars, they have kinematic connection (6) with a 1: 1 gear ratio and the switch mechanism for forward and reverse transmission of rotation and independent movement of crank-con-rod mechanisms, hand adapters (8) secured to the con-rods (9) of upper pair of crank-con-rod mechanisms, foot supports (10) secured to the con-rods (11) of lower pair of crank-con-rod mechanisms, con-rod guides (12) secured with capability of tilting and fixing horizontally or at a specified angle to the horizontal.
The Trainer PI being patented is used as follows.
To be adjusted: - desirable tilt of weight bars (3), desirable position of the foot supports and hand adapters at the appropriate con rods (9, 1 1), - required distance between the crank-con-rod mechanisms (4,5), - desirable angle of tilt of con-rod guides (12), - required level of training load.
Exercising is carried out in horizontal spine position with extremities are based on corresponding supports and adapters.
By combining: - the starting angle position of the upper and lower pair of cranks (7), - switching on forward or reverse transmission of rotation, direction of axles rotation, the user have wide choice: - of great variety of feet and hands synchronous movement: circular, ellipsoidal, rectilinear; - of variety of imitations horizontal movement, movement up or downhill, movement by gallop, amble or regular step-forward or backward.
This provides good possibility for multifarious general physical training and for intensive exercising deep muscles of spine and strengthening the vertebral joints and for solving certain problems of musculoskeletal system.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. Trainer for exercising deep muscles of spine and strengthening the vertebral joints and for posture correction comprising : - a support unit - two pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms-upper and lower-being secured to the support unit - foot supports and hand adapters being attached to the con-rods, - a mechanism for adjusting the training load.
  2. 2. A Trainer as claimed in Claim 1, wherein support unit constructed in 2 sections: a bench and weight bars, weight bars is secured at a specified angle to the bench with capability of tilting up and down and fixing.
  3. 3. A Trainer as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein upper pair of crank-con-rod mechanisms'axle and lower pair of crank-con-rod mechanisms'axle have kinematic connection with a 1: 1 gear ratio and the switch mechanism for switching between forward and reverse transmission of rotation and for independent rotation of pairs of crank-con-rod mechanisms; upper and lower pairs of crank-piston-rod mechanisms being moveable and their positions being adjustable with subsequent fixing along the weight bars.
  4. 4. A Trainer as claimed in Clime 1 to 3, wherein each pair of cranks can be fixed to the axle in one direction from the axle or at 180 degrees to one another.
  5. 5. A Trainer as claimed in Claim 1 to 4, wherein the foot supports secured to the con-rods of lower pair of crank-con-rods mechanisms and being moveable along the con-rods with subsequent fixing.
  6. 6. A Trainer as claimed in Claim 1 to 5, wherein the hand adapters secured to the con-rods of upper pair of crank-con-rods mechanisms and being moveable along the con-rods with subsequent fixing.
  7. 7. A Trainer as claimed in Claim 1 to 6, wherein the con-rod guides secured with capability of tilting and fixing horizontally or at a specified angle to horizontal.
