Abstract

A panel-form bending wave loudspeaker comprising a panel (30) having a neutral plane (50) and a displacement transducer (46, 48) coupled to the panel at a position displaced from the neutral plane (50). A pair of such displacement transducers (46, 48) may be oppositely disposed about the neutral plane and may be embedded in the panel (30). The displacement transducers (46, 48) induce local bending in the panel by inducing extension (arrow A) and compression (arrow B) on either side of the neutral plane (50).
