Abstract

A levelling apparatus includes a liquid spirit level vial 2, permanently fixed to a vehicular trailer type reflector 1, forming a single device for attachment to a caravan, trailer, and container type vehicle to enable their bases to be levelled, when unhitched or off loaded for siting.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Levelling Device This invention relates to a levelling device composed of a visual liquid vial spirit level, permanently mounted into a reflector, which is then fixed in various locations on a mobile baer, touring caravan or static caravan, cabin or container, in order to enable the base to be levelled, when unhitched or off loaded for siting.
The levelling device permanently mounted in four locations aligned with the base on a trailer or container body will give constant visual indications that the base is level and Nkril.l help avoid twisting and stress to the body frame. The level device enables regular visual inspection for levelling adjustments to be made via jacking points if it becomes necessary due to ground settlement, it also helps solve the problem of finding a suitable level position on the trailer/container for the use of alternative hand held levelling equipment.
The liquid spirit level vials mounted in the reflectors allow them to be permanently fixed, this allows the liquid levelling devices to be easily monitored at any time during and after the levelling process.
Reflectors are a safety requirement, and combined with a liquid spirit level vial, forms a single device for case of permanent attachment.
Reflectors are made mainly of plastic material and come in varying shapes, sizes, and colours. The liquid spirit level vials are also made of plastic and can be colour coded to suit the reflector. The main colour codings are red, amber and clear, A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure I Shows the side and rear views of a typical small trailcr 5 with stabilizing support legs jacking points 7,8 a4justed with the guidance of the combined rectangular levelling device I permanently attached to the trailer 5.Triangular standard reflectors, 4 are also shown on the rear view that could be substituted for the combined levelling devices I as illustrated in fig 6- Figure 2 Shows the side and front views of a typical small trailer 5 with stabilizing legs jacking points 7,8 adjusted using the guidance of the rectangular combined levelling device I permanently attached.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figure 3 Shows face view of a rectangular type reflector I with liquid spirit level vial 2 raised shoulder 9 incorporated and fixing holes 3 for securing to trailer body 5. (note fig.3 is also shown on page 2/2 for clarity) Figure 4 Shows typical end view section of figures 3,5 and 6 reflectors I with raised shouldeT 9 liquid spirit level vial 2 air bubble 6 fixing hole 3 rear sealing plate 10 incorporated.
Figure 5 Shows face view of a circular type reflector I with liquid spirit level vial 2 raised shoulder 9 fixing holes 3 incorporated.
Figure 6 Shows face view of a rectangular type reflector (1) with liquid spirit level vial 2 fixing holes 3 raised shoulder 9 incorporated.
Figure 7 Shows plastic tubular liquid vial 2 with air bubble 6 centralized.
As shown in figures 1,2 the levelling devices] are located on the lower sides of the small trailer 5, they are positioned level by firstly laying them on the floor of trailer 5 and raising or lowering the jacking points 7,8 as may be required until all the liquid vial 2 air bubbles 6 are centralized and levelling of the base has been achieved, the levelling devices I are then secured to the sides one by one with the liquid vial 2 air bubbles 6 centralized as before, and secured with screws or rivets depending on the materials used to constructed the sides they are being fixed on. Figure 4 shows typical section through the plastic reflector I with raised shoulder 9 and centralized recess provided to accept the location of the plastic liquid vial 2 with rear sealing plate 10, the liquid vial 2 is glued into the recess for permanent attachment and sealing.
