Abstract

A cover 20 is fitted across the open end of the drum 10 of a cement mixer, to prevent splashes being thrown out whilst the drum is rotating. The cover may comprise a sheet of wear- resistant, waterproof material having a peripheral margin (preferably elasticated) which fits around the outside of the mixer drum, adjacent its open end.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Cement Mixers The present invention relates to cement mixers.
A cement mixer generally comprises a drum which is rotatably mounted to a wheeled frame structure: normally the axis of the drum is inclined upwardly, whilst material are loaded into the drum and the drum is rotated to mix these materials, then the drum can be tilted to empty the mixed contents. In use, whilst the drum is rotating, splashes of water are often thrown out of the drum, particularly when the drum is being washed out.
I have now devised an accessory for preventing splashes of water or other material being thrown out of the rotating drum of a cement mixer.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a cover for fitting across the open end of the drum of a cement mixer, to prevent splashes being thrown out whilst the drum is rotating.
Preferably the cover is formed of a sheet of wear- resistant, waterproof material, having a peripheral margin arranged to fit around the outside of the mixer drum, adjacent its open end.
Preferably the material of the cover is flexible and its peripheral margin is preferably elasticated in order to embrace the periphery of the drum firmly.
It will be appreciated that the cover is quick and easy to fit and equally quick and easy to remove, It is effective in preventing splashes of water etc. being thrown out through the open end of the drum: it may also be left in place over the open end of the drum, when the mixer is not in use.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is a view of a cement mixer, the drum of which is fitted with a cover in accordance with the

present invention.
Referring to the drawing, there is shown a conventional cement mixer which comprises a drum 10 mounted on a wheeled structure 12. The axis of the drum 10 is normally inclined upwardly as shown but the drum may be tilted downwardly to tip its contents out.
The cement mixer is shown fitted with a cover 20 across the open end or mouth of the drum. The cover 20 is formed of a flexible sheet of wear-resistant, waterproof material: the cover 20 is generally circular and has a peripheral margin 22 which is elasticated, and fits around the pin of the drum to embrace this firmly and so keep the cover in place.
The cover 20, once in place as shown, is thus effective in preventing splashes being thrown out of the drum, particularly when the drum is being washed out.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1) A cover for fitting across the open end of the drum of a cement mixer, to prevent splashes being thrown out whilst the drum is rotating.
  2. 2) A cover as claimed in claim 1, formed of a sheet of wear-resistant, waterproof material, having a peripheral margin arranged to fit around the outside of the mixer drum, adjacent its open end.
  3. 3) A cover as claimed in claim 2, in which said material is flexible.
  4. 4) A cover as claimed in claim 3, in which said peripheral margin thereof is elasticated and serves to embrace the periphery of the drum firmly.
  5. 5) A cover substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  6. 6) A cement mixer having a cover f itted across the open end of its drum, the cover being as claimed in any preceding claim.
