Abstract

The reflectors are spacers made in polyfibre/vinyl or other suitable material which are edge faced with a retroreflective material. They are placed between kerbs when they are laid and are shaped to have an angular profile which is slightly proud of the kerb face giving them a reflective capability defining the road edge. The raised profile also acts as a warning to pedestrians with impaired sight that they are walking along the kerb edge. The reflectors also act as expansion joints and no mortar material is required to instal them.

Description

2362411 1 Keffiflectors A new innovation to improve road safety.
Kerbflectors are spacers made in polyfibre/vinyl or other suitable material which are edge faced with a retroreflective material.
They are placed between kerbs when they are laid and will remain in position during the lifetime of the kerbing.
They are made to fit different B S 7263 kerb sizes.
They are shaped to have an angular profile which is slightly proud of the kerb face giving them a reflective capability defining the road edge in all conditions. This raised profile also acts as a warning to pedestrians with impaired sight that they are walkiing along the kerb edge, giving the same effect as a tactile paving surface.
It is recommended that they be installed at close spacing on bends and at regular spacings along straight roads.
2 Figures 1,2&3 show the design of kerHectors when placed between B S7263 half batter kerbs. For a half batter kerb the kerbflector has: A slope of reflecting surface-30deg/45deg An area of reflecting surface- 1 5.20cm2 Keffifiectors also act as expansion joints and no mortar material is required to install them.
Kerbflectors can be produced to suit various sizes of kerbs manufactured to BS 7263 and with an option of the complete spacer being produced in the retroreflective material, This would increase the reflecting area of that part of the kerbflector showing above the road surfacing.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims
    KerHectors are simple to instal.
Keffiflectors will continue to show up after road studs go missing, line markings or safety barrier markings have faded and reflective bollards have been damaged or demolished.
Their value is in defining the road edge complementing other road markings to improve road safety, especially on unlit roads. They are also useful in defining parking limits where kerbs have been installed.
They are simple and cost effective as a road safety innovation.
They are unaffected by the accumulation of detritus in carriageway channels which can obscure line markings and road studs.
