Abstract

A portable warmer for food and drink comprises a thermally insulated container 11 and a non-insulated container 12 and a lid 13 of thermally insulating material, the respective containers 11 and 12 being adapted to be located in a mutually inverted relationship on opposite sides of the lid 13 as in figure 1. The insulated container 11 with the lid 13 thereon is intended to contain hot water to effect the warming. The non-insulated container 12 may be of transparent material and in the form of a bowl, for receiving food or liquid, shaped and dimensioned to be received into the insulated container 11, by a flared periphery (fig 3, 18), when the lid 13 has been removed. The lid 13 may have an outer rim 14 projecting from one side, which is adapted to snap engage the periphery of container 11, and an inner rim 15 projecting from the other side to engage the periphery of the container 12. The lid 13 may also have a central tubular projection 16, dimensioned to receive a tin 17 such as baby food, projecting into the container 11, once heated the lid may be reversed to act as a stand for the tin (fig 4).

Description

2361172 1.
ITORTABLE WARMEC This invention relates to a portable warmer for food and drink primarily, although not exclusively, intended to assist feeding a baby in circumstances where hot water is not readily available, as when travelling.
The contents of a tin of baby food need to be wa roughly to blood temperature before feeding the baby. This is not easy to achieve, for example on a journey. An object of the invention is to provide a simple device which will overcome.this problem.
In accordance with the invention there is provided a portable warmer for food and drink comprising thermally insulated and non-insulated containers adapted to nest in mutually inverted relationship on opposite sides of a lid, the assembly of insulated container and lid being adapted to contain hot water.
Preferably the noninsulated container is in the form of a bowl shaped and dimensioned to be received into the insulated container when the lid is removed. The non-insulated container may be of transparent material.
Preferably the lid has on one side an outer rim adapted to fit the periphery of the insulated container and on its other side a rim adapted to fit the periphery of the non-insulated container.
The lid may additionally have oh said one side thereof a tubular projection adapted to receive one end of a tin of baby food.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of non-limitative example with reference to the accompanying Drawings, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates a portable warmer in accordance with the invention in an assembled condition; Figure 2 illustrates the warmer of Figure 1 in an exploded view; Figure 3 illustrates one use of the warmer of Figures 1 and 2, and Figure 4 illustrates a use of the lid of the warmer.
2.
The warmer 10 illustrated comprises a base container 11 of thermally insulating material and a top container or bowl 12 of transparent material. A lid 13 of thermally insulating material has projecting from one side an outer rim 14 adapted to snap-engage the periphery of the container 11 and projecting from its other side an inner rim which will be engaged as a friction fit by the periphery of the bowl 12. Additionally the lid has on its said one side a central, tubular projection dimensioned to receive one end of a tin 17 of baby f ood.
In use of the portable warmer 10 illustrated the base container 11 is filled with hot water and then sealed with the lid 13. The inverted bowl 12 engages the lid 13 so that the whole assembly can be carried as a unit and it may be used to store food or drink which will later be warmed.
When it is desired to feed the baby the bowl 12 and lid 13 are separated both from one another and from the container 11. As shown in Figure 3 the bowl 12 can be f illed with food or drink from any source and then nested into the container 11 so that the contents of the bowl 12 will be warmed by the hot water in container 11. The bowl 12 has a flared periphery 18 which will fit the top of container 11 to prevent hot water being spilled when the container 11 is now held in the hand to spoon the contents of bowl 12 to the baby.
Alternatively a tin 17 of baby food which has been carried in bowl 12 is first opened, after discarding the bowl 12, and then its open end is received in the tubular projection 16 of the lid and the lid replaced on container 11 to heat the food. -When the contents of the tin have been heated sufficiently the lid is removed, carrying the tin with it. The lid can now be used as a stand for the tin, as shown in Figure 4, by removing the lid from the open end of the tin, placing it upsid down and then inserting the closed end of the tin into the tubular projection 16. The lid will thus prevent the tin being knocked over, which is a constant hazard when feeding a baby.
