Abstract

A device which is attached to the lower part of the handle of a tool such as a spade or fork to make the lifting of the blade an easier operation. When digging with a spade, the digging action requires the user to bend significantly to grasp the lower part of the handle to lift the soil. This bending and lifting often damages the users back. With the device fixed the user can grasp the handle and lift the blade with little or no bending. The device is fixed with a single nut through a 9mm. hole drilled through the spade handle. The nut is permanently fixed in the ball and no special tools are required for securing the device to the spade.

The Description
The DIGAID The DIGAID is a device which is attached to the lower part of the handle of a spade or fork (or other tool commonly used for digging, earth moving etc.)to enable the tool to be lifted or pulled with less effort and - importantly - with little back bending.
In this description the word 'spade' is used to descnibe the digging device_
The DIGAID is designed to be of benefit to those with back trouble as well as being useful for those without back trouble in that it is designed to help prvent problems developLing.
From the drawings it will be seen how the DIGAID is fixed to the handle of the spade by one nut only. The nut is set in a ball for case of use. (No.special tools are required for fixing.) The operation of the spade with the DIGAID attached is as follows:- 1. M the normal manner, with one foot press the blade of the spade into the soil.
2. In the normal manner puB back the top of the spade handle.
3. With one hand grasp the DIGAID and lift the blade of the spade.
Without the DIGAID the user would have to bend significantly to grasp the lower part of the spade and would have to use the relatively weak back muscles to lift. With the DIGAID this back bending is kept to a minimum. Indeed the use of the DIGAID promotes the use of the more powerful leg muscles.
The DIGAID is a simple and inexpensive device to manufacture.

Claims (1)

  1. c 1 1 Claim.
The DIGAID The DIGAID is a device with a handle which when fixed to the lower part of a tool such as a spade enables an operator after levering back the tool to lift the blade without bending as much as when the device is not fixed and therefore reduces stress on the operators back.
