Abstract

The base has the form of a shallow bowl 1 with a central through-hole which includes a receptacle 2 for the shaft of the parasol and a conventional lever lock 3 for clamping the shaft in place. The base is lightweight and can be loaded with ballast on site or buried just below the surface (eg on a beach). The end of the shaft may be driven into the ground through the hole to increase stability.

Description

2360451 BEACHIGARDEN PARASOL HOLDER This invention relates to a beach or
garden parasol holder.
Parasol holders are common on beach sites and in pub gardens throughout the world. They are weighted bases made of concrete or water filled plastic containers to which the parasol is attached. Existing parasol holders are, however, large and/or heavy to transport and areY therefore, relatively permanently situated.
According to the present invention there is provided a parasol holder comprising a small, light, shallow base which is slipped over the parasol stem through a central hole and attached to the parasol stem by means of a receptacle with a lever lock. The anchor weight is provided by ballast present on site.
A specific embodiment of the invention wil.1 now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 Shows in perspective the parasol holder with the fixing receptacle and lever lock Fig. 2 Shows a side view of the parasol holder with the fixing receptacle and the lever lock Fig. 3 Shows the parasol holder attached to the parasol stem and in position on a beach site Fig. 4 Shows the parasol holder attached to the parasol stem and in position for a garden or patio site Referring to the drawings Fig. 1 & 2 the parasol holder comprises a shallow bowl some 10cm - 15cm deep, measuring 25cm 30cm long by 20cm - 25cm wide. In the centre is a receptacle 2 over a hole with a diameter the same as the parasol stem. A lever lock 3,, suitable for this type of attachment, (as used to lock the two parts of a parasol stem together) is situated on this receptacle. - 1 - In order to fix the lower part of the parasol stem to the holder it is slipped some 15cm-20cm up the stem through the central receptacle Fig. 3 and fixed by means of the lever lock 4. In order to anchor the holder and thereby secure the parasol in its site, a shallow hole is scooped out in the beach to accommodate the holder and protruding stem and once it is in position ballast is heaped back over it 5.
Alternatively, the protruding pointed stem is pushed into the ground 6 with the holder resting on the hard surface Fig.4. In this instance a suitable heavy object 7 is used to anchorit to its site.
To remove the holder from the parasol stem the steps described above are carried out in reverse order.

Claims (6)

1. A parasol holder comprising a shallow bowl or tray with a hole in the middle and a receptacle with a lever lock for securing it to the stem of a beach or garden parasol.
2. A parasol holder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the lever locking device is similar to that used by existing parasols to secure the two parts of a parasol stem together.
3. A parasol holder as claimed in Claim 1 and 2 wherein the means of anchoring the said holder, secured to the parasol stem, on any beach site, is by means of heaping the local ballast on -top of the holder.
4. A parasol holder as claimed in 1 and 2 wherein the means of anchoring the said holder, secured to the parasol stem, into a lawn or patio site is by means of driving the protruding pointed stem into the ground allowing the holder to rest on the surface and anchoring it by a suitable heavy object.
5. A parasol holder as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the parasol holder is small and light enough to be easily portable.
6. A parasol holder substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 to 4 of the accompanying drawing.
