Abstract

235,219. Compagnie d'Applications MÚcaniques. June 5, 1924, [Convention date] . Vibration.dampers.-The pivotal connection between the arm of a frictional vibration damper and the frame or axle, as described in Specification 223,890, is modified in detail in various ways. In the form shown in Fig. 1, two conical ball bearings are provided, adjustment being effected by screwing the cone 6 on the trunnion 1 which is keyed to the arm 5. The cone 6 is locked by a nut 16. The outer races are formed on a member 9 held in place in the box 8 by a screwed cover 12. In a modification of this construction a single row of balls is used. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, rings 26 are arranged between conical surfaces on the trunnion 1 and on an exterior ring 28. These rings may be prevented from rotating on the inner cones. In modifications of this construction, the inner cones face the opposite way and are turned on the spindle, whereas the outer cones are made separate from one another and are held in position in the box by the cover. In further modifications, adjustment for wear is made by means of springs. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, two rows of rollers 37, 38 work in grooves 35, 36 in the trunnion, axial movement between the trunnion and box being restrained by washers 40, 41. In modifications, a thrust ring on the trunnion, or held in the box, is located between the rows of rollers. In further modifications, taper rollers, or a single row of rollers are employed. Springs used instead of or in conjunction with the screw cap may be employed to take up wear automatically. The two arms 5 may be arranged on opposite sides of the bearing as shown in Fig. 16. This arrangement may be employed with two rows of balls. Two bearings may be arranged on opposite sides of the arms, the trunnion being common to both. In the modification shown in Fig. 19, a ball bearing is combined with a spherical connection to a bracket 101.
