Abstract
A hitch assembly is provided which allows for mounting or dismounting buckets to an excavator arm by inserting or removing a single pin. The hitch assembly comprises an upper body for connection to the excavator by interposing pins 6, through the holes 1 and the arms 4 and 5 of the excavator and a lower body for connection to the bucket. The excavator arm is used to guide the hitch so as to locate a bar on the bucket 8, into open ended slots 2, then raised to allow the bucket to pivot about the bar 8, to cause holes 3, on the hitch assembly to align with the holes 9 on the bucket. Thereafter a pin 7 is inserted to lock the bucket to the assembly.
Description
2351963 Backhoe Bucket Hitch This invention relates to a Backhoe Bucket
Hitch.
Digger and excavator Backhoe Buckets are commonly used to dig trenches and excavate large areas. These diggers and excavators range in size from small machines weighing approximately one tonne to very large machines weighing in excess of 50 tonnes. The digging buckets for these machines can be very heavy and difficult to manhandle. A commonly used aid to handling these buckets is a hitch which is permanently fixed to the boom or dipper arm of the machine by means of two bars or pins. This hitch also has a means of being attached to the bucket in a simpler manner than connecting two bars or pins. There are several such hitches available which are relatively complicated and as a result, expensive. These hitches however do not lend themselves to a universal fitting system.
According to the present invention there is provided a fixture with two pairs of in-line holes though which are fitted two pins in order to affix the hitch to the digger dipper arm. The other side of the fixture is provided with two in-line open ended slotted holes which are hooked under the top pin of the bucket. The bucket is then lifted from the ground with the dipper arm allowing the bucket to swing on it's top pin facilitating the lining up of the buckets lower bossed holes and the insertion of a second pin.The bucket is then ready for work.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Fig I Shows in perspective the hitch affixed to the dipper arm and bucket.
Fig 2 shows in perspective the hitch alone.
Fig 3 shows a side view of the hitch in section.
Fig 4 shows the bucket being picked up on the hitch slots prior to the lower pin being inserted.
Referring to the drawings 1/2 & 2/2 the hitch comprises a fixture with two pairs of in-line bossed holes 1 to which the digger dipper arm 4 and link arm 5 are fitted by means of two pins 6 through the holes. The hitch remains affixed to the dipper arm at all times unless maintenance or repair is required. The hitch now on the dipper arm,is placed over the bucket and slots 2 located on pin 8.The bucket can now be lifted clear of the ground and holes 9 and 3 swung into line and pin 7 inserted.
In order to standardise the hitch to bucket fitting, all buckets can be made to standard dimensions, thus slots 2 and holes 3 would always be the same and fit to holes 8 and 9 allowing buckets to be used by any digger within a weight range. Holes I on the hitch would be made to fit the dipper and link arm of it's host machine.i.e.the hitch would be specific to if s host machine, not the bucket.
Claims (4)
- ClaimsLA fixture which is mounted onto the dipper arm of a backhoe digging machine or excavator allowing for it's mounting and demounting of digger buckets with the inserting or removal respectively of one pin or bar.
- 2.A fixture as claimed in claim I wherein guide means are provided to locate the fixture to the bucket.
- 3.A fixture as claimed in any preceeding claim wherein the buckets to which it fixes may be made to one standard design and size within an unspecified range relating to the weight or size of the host digging machine.
- 4.A fixture substantially as decribed herein with reference to Figures 14 of the accompanying drawing.
