Abstract

The silencer comprises a tube that fits on to the outlet orifice of the jet engine. Rotatably mounted on a shaft running centrally through the tube is a series of free-running vanes with their blades arranged so that the vanes are rotated by the force of the jet blast in opposite directions to each other, so "chopping up" the sound waves.

Description

2350401 SILENCER' -JET ENGINE.
The Silencer consists of a tube that fits onto the orifice of thejet engine.
A shaft through the centre of this tube, is supported by three arm supports, at both ends of the tube.
Mounted on this shaft are ten 'Vanes' (free running), each vane has three blades. each vane so mounted to turn in opposite directions to each other, clockwise and anti-clockwise. by the force of the jet blast, so 'Chops up the Sound Waves'. Plans enclosed. 3mm clearance between vanes.
Any number of Vanes can be used and any number of blades to Vanes, as might be required.

Claims (3)

1. A silencer for a jet engine, comprising a tubular housing through which the jet blast will pass, and a series of freerunning rotatable vanes mounted on a shaft extending coaxially within the housing, the blades of the vanes being arranged so that adjacent vanes rotate in opposite directions under the force of the jet blast.
2. A jet engine incorporating a silencer according to claim 1.
3. A jet-propelled aeroplane or other vehicle incorporating a silencer according to claim 1.
