Abstract

A wheel lifting tool comprises a lifting arm assembly 1 positioned on one side of a pivot and a pressure plate assembly 2 on the other. An angled plate 6 forms the pivot 4 and receives the mounting shaft of the pressure plate assembly 2 which is pivotably attached thereto by means of swivel pins 3. Slots may be formed in the rear face of the angle plate assembly during manufacture to determine the height 5 of the pressure plate assembly 2 above the ground. The lifting arm assembly 2 is positioned under the wheel to be lifted and downward pressure is then applied by means of the hand, knee or foot to the pressure plate, which lifts the wheel. For ease of storage, once the device has been used the pressure plate assembly may fold about a central hinge to be received between the arms of the lifting arm assembly.

DESCRIPTION
Motor Car Wheel lift This invention relates to relieving of the weight of a motor wheel, during wheel change, in particular to those wheels using spine hubs which may, or may not, be fitted with decorative discs.
it was considered vital that such a device should be compact, for inclusion in a tool kit, simple, and not to be disassembled when not in use.
Motor wheel lifting devices generally relate to studded wheels, which to locate on the hub need both lifting and rotating. This inevitably leads to a design that is both bulky and complicated. Wheels with spine hubs, with their multi-locating spines on both hub and wheel only require lifting.
This invention, by means of two welded assemblies, attached to a central pivot point, allows for downward pressure by knee, or foot, onto a pressure plate on one side of the pivot point, to raise lifting arms on the opposite side of the pivot point, thus lifting the wheel.
The device is, therefore, extremely simple.
The pressure plate assembly being able to rotate by swivel pins on a lifting arm assembly, allowing one assembly to fold within the other.
The device is also very compact.
The swivel pins are locked by grub screws, and the separate assemblies cannot be parted.
The device is not to be disassembled.

Claims (9)

CLAIMS 2
1. A simple compact device for lifting motor wheels fitted with splined hubs, comprising of two welded steel assemblies (a) A Lifting Arm Assembly (b) Pressure Plate Assembly joined by swivel pins allowing assembly (b) to fold within assembly (a).
2. A Lifting Arm Assembly of two shaped arms spaced to accommodate a motor wheel joined together by an angle plate.
3. Directly over the angle plate (Claim 2), one in each lifting arm are two accurately located lifting holes, which are fitted with swivel pins (Claim 1), which in turn locate assembly (b).
4. The pressure plate assembly consists of a mounting shaft, two pressure plate locating arms, and a pressure plate.
5. The angle plate of assembly (a) is multipurpose:
(a) positions the lifting arms of assembly (a) (Claim 2) (b) provides location for mounting shaft assembly (b) (Claim 3) via swivel pins.
(c) provides the pivot between assembly (a) and (b) via swivel pins (C0 provides adjustment to the operating height (Claim 6) (e) allows assembly (a) to fold within assembly (b) via swivel pins (Claim 1) (f) provides the working pivot for the whole device.
6. Slots in the rear face of the angle plate directly beneath the pressure plate locating arms provide adjustment during manufacture of the operating height.
7. A dished pressure plate removes sharp edges.
8. A rubber pad fitted to pressure plate to prevent foot slippage.
9. A motor wheel lift substantially herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
