Abstract
A motor vehicle protection device comprises an airtight vessel 1 demountably attached to the extremities, especially the front and rear, of a motor vehicle. The airtight vessel 1 may be made from woven or wound composite plastics. Valves 4 allow compressed air to be introduced into the airtight vessels 1. Dividing membranes 5 may be provided within the airtight vessels to provide compartmentalisation as well as providing means whereby shape may be induced into the outer surface of the airtight vessel 1.

2350089 MOTOR VEHICLE PROTECTION DEVICE This invention relates to a device
or devices attached to a inotor vehicle providing protection for that vehicle and its occupants.
Bumpers or fenders attached to the front and rear of motor vehicles are normally made from rigid or serni-rigid materials and are designed to provide some protection for the vehicle.
Existing bumper and fender devices are generally deficient in one or more areas for instance:
Once deformed by impact they stay deformed.
The level of resilience contributing to greater safety for the occupants is less than ideal.
For the protection provided.the weight is relatively high.
It is to the above issues that the present invention provides solutions According to the present invention there is provided an airtight vessel filled with compressed air which airtight vessel is demountably attached to a motor vehicle said airtight vessel being produced from woven or wound composite plastics, carbon fibre, KevIar nylon or similar.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig 1. is an illustrative cut-away perspective. In the drawing only those elements essential to the operation of the present invention are illustrated. Power sources and control gear have been deleted for clarity.
(2) Referring to the drawing the motor vehicle protection device comprises an airtight vessel 1 demountably attached to the extremities of a a motor vehicle 2 the airtight vessel 1 has a continuous outer skin 3 preferably produced ftom woven or wound composite plastics.
Integral with the airtight vessel 1 there is a valve or valves allowing compressed air to be introduced into the said airtight'vessel 1 so inflating the continuous outer skin 3.
Within the airtight vessel 1 maybe dividing membranes 5 which said membranes allow effective compartmentalisation of the airtight vessel 1 as well as providing means whereby shape maybe induced into the outer surface of the airtight vessel 1.

- Claims:1. A motor vehicle protection device wherein a airtight vessel manufactured from 0 woven or wound composite plastics is attached to the extremities of a motor vehicle.
