Abstract

234,917. Bennis, A. W. March 11, 1924. Grates.-Means for sealing the space between the side links of a chain grate and the furnace walls comprise bars 2, formed in sections, flexibly connected by links 15 and pins 16, and pressed against the side links 1 by levers 5 which may be either of a springy nature themselves, or, as shown, controlled by springs 8 arranged on headed pins 9 projecting through the stoker frame 7. The levers 5 extend the whole depth of the frame 7 to which they are secured by screws 6 about which they can, if necessary, pivot. The bars 2 have projecting lips 13, between which and the sill-plate 14 ashes are retained to form a seal, and are also formed with flanges 10 adapted to support a sealing-roller 11, formed in sections. A pin 17, Fig. 3, prevents the bars 2 from moving with the grate.
