Abstract
234,600. Brown, C., and Brown & Barlow, Ltd. April 17, 1924. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor is of the type in which the fuel nozzle is located in an air passage forming a branch of the main air passage and the invention consists in controlling a supply of air to the branch passage by a member actuated independently of the throttle valve except that as the throttle is brought to its closing position, the member is simultaneously moved to close the air supply. A piston valve c is moved across a straight-through passage having an inlet a and outlet b and carries a needle valve h for controlling a nozzle d located in a passage f whichcommunicates through a sheet of gauze g with the main passage. The passage f is in communication through holes i with an annular passage j to which air is admitted through holes in the wall of a cylinder l containing a control piston. A further supply of air is admitted to the chamber f through a duct e<1> at a point in advance of the controlled supply. The throttle valve is actuated by lever r and link s and the air-regulating piston by lever p and link o. These levers have lugs r<1>, p<1> so arranged that the throttle can be moved independently of the air-control piston, except that as the throttle approaches its closing position, the lug r<1> engages lug p<1> and closes the air supply. A pilot nozzle t may be provided, fed with fuel from the main fuel passage and with air through a controlled transverse passage.
