Abstract

A transmission assembly 23 for a vehicle having a longitudinally mounted engine and front wheel drive includes a change speed transmission 25 connected to a spiral bevel final drive 26 carried in a final drive casing 54. The transmission assembly 23 is connected to the engine by an adapter casing 24 which is integral with the final drive casing 54, thereby avoiding connecting the final drive casing to the engine lower structure (crankcase and sump).
