Abstract
A plinth (1) comprises a rectangular base frame (7 fig 5) adapted in use to be secured to a floor and an internally threaded support cylinder (10 fig 5) mounted at each corner of the base frame with its axis vertical. A set of telescopic tubular support legs (4;5;6 figs 1,2,3) are adapted to be telescopically received one in each of the support cylinders (10 fig 5). Each telescopic tubular support leg comprises an outer support leg cylinder (12;13;14 figs 6,7,8) having an external thread (17 fig 6) adapted to co-operate with the internal thread of a support cylinder (10 fig 5) and internal thread (18 fig 8) adapted to co-operate with an external thread (19 fig 10) formed on an inner support leg cylinder (15;16 figs 10,11) such that the inner support leg cylinder is telescopically supported in the outer support leg cylinder
Description
PLINTHS
The invention relates to plinths for cash-point machines or the like.
Cash-point machines are generally installed on a plinth which is itself bolted to a concrete floor. In order to ensure that the cash-point machine is supported at the correct height, the plinth must be accurately made to measure in each case or must be adjustable. A limited degree of adjustability has been provided in a known plinth by means of four telescopic support legs each comprising two tubes of square section which can be held in various positions by pins passing through aligned apertures.
The present invention provides an improved plinth for a cash-point machine or the like comprising a base frame and a plurality of upstanding support legs, wherein each support leg comprises three cylindrical telescopic elements threaded within one another for telescopic adjustment.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention there is provided a plinth for a cash-point machine or the like comprising a rectangular base frame adapted in use to be secured to a floor ; an internally threaded support cylinder mounted at each corner of the base frame with its axis vertical and a set of telescopic tubular support legs adapted to be telescopically received one in each of the support cylinders wherein each telescopic tubular support leg comprises an outer support leg cylinder having an external thread adapted to co-operate with the internal thread of a support cylinder and an internal thread adapted to co-operate with an external thread formed on an inner support leg cylinder such that the inner support leg cylinder is telescopically supported in the outer support leg cylinder.
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an isometric view of a first plinth ;
Figure 2 is an isometric view of a second plinth;
Figure 3 is an isometric view of a third plinth ;
Figure 4 is a side view of the base frame of a plinth,
Figure 5 is a plan view of the base frame of a plinth;
Figure 6 is a side view of a first outer support leg cylinder ;
Figure 7 is a side view of a second outer support leg cylinder;
Figure 8 is a side view of a third outer support leg cylinder;
Figure 9 is a top end view of an outer support leg cylinder as shown in Figure 6 or Figure 7;
Figure 10 is a side view of a first inner support leg cylinder;
Figure 11 is a side view of a second inner support leg cylinder;
Figure 12 is a top end view of an inner support leg cylinder ;
Figure 13 is a top end view of an outer support leg cylinder as shown in Figure 8; and
Figure 14 is a partial view of a connection between an inner and an outer support leg cylinder.
Referring to Figures 1-3, three different plinths 1,2,3 are shown. These plinths are identical except that they have telescopic tubular support legs 4,5 and 6 of different lengths.
Each plinth comprises a rectangular base frame 7 comprising four beams 8 welded to four corner plates 9. A relatively short internally threaded support cylinder 10 is also welded to each corner plate 9 at each corner of the base frame and with its axis vertical. The base frame is adapted to be bolted to a concrete or other floor through holes 11 in the corner plates.
Each plinth is provided with a set of four upstanding telescopic support legs, each comprising an outer support leg cylinder 12,13 or 14 and an inner support leg cylinder 15 or 16. The outer support leg cylinders 12,13, or 14 have an external thread 17 by means of which they may be fitted telescopically into the support cylinders 10 and an internal thread 18 by means of which they may telescopically receive an inner support leg cylinder 15 or 16 which has an external thread 19 for this purpose. The support cylinders, outer support leg cylinders and inner support leg cylinders thus form three cylindrical telescopic elements threaded within one another for telescopic adjustment. A top plate 20 is mounted on the upper ends of the inner support leg cylinders.
Plinths of heights adjustable over different ranges of height are provided as follows. A plinth 1 such as the one shown in Figure 1 may be adjustable over a height range of, for example, 350-550 mm and is formed of a base as shown in
Figures 4 and 5 and four telescopic tubular support legs 4 each comprising an outer support leg cylinder 12 having a length of about 325 mm and an inner support leg cylinder 15 of length about 170 mm. The outer support leg cylinder is normally screwed fully into a support cylinder 10 and the inner support leg cylinder 15 is adjustably screwed into the outer support leg cylinder 12 and locked by a locking ring 21 as shown in Figure 14.
A plinth 2 as shown in Figure 2 may have an adjustable height range of, for example, 175-365 mm and will have its legs formed from an outer support leg cylinder 13 of length about 150 mm and an inner support leg cylinder 15. A plinth 3 as shown in Figure 3 may have an adjustable height range of, for example, 90-175 mm and will have its legs formed from an outer support leg cylinder 14 having a length of about 70 mm and an inner support leg cylinder 16 of about the same length.
In this case, the outer support leg cylinder 14 may not be screwed fully into the support cylinder 10.
Each of the outer support leg cylinders 12 and 13 is formed with an enlarged head 22 which carries the internal thread 18 and forms an abutting surface for a locking ring 21.
Each of the inner support leg cylinders 15, 16 has an enlarged head 23 formed with an aperture 24 by means of which the top plate 20 is fitted. Through holes 25 are provided in the support leg cylinders 12-16 so that a tool may be used to turn them.
When a plinth is supplied, it may be supplied with more than one set of support legs. For example, a plinth may be provided with three sets of outer support leg cylinders 12,13,14 and two sets of inner support leg cylinders 15, 16 In this way, the installer need only select the leg components which are required. This overcomes the problem of a plinth being delivered to site with the wrong length legs.
