Abstract

A T-shaped clamp 2, which can be fitted around a pipe 1, comprises a cutting tool 3 which cuts through the pipe, the cutting tool 3 having a rubber lined stem 6 which blocks the pipe. The cutting tool 3 may be driven into the pipe 1 using a socket wrench 14 or a drill bit. The rubber lined stem 6 may be coated with lubrication. The clamp 2 may be hinged 10, secured to the pipe 1 by Allen screws 5, and lined on its interior with rubber 4.

Description

The Pipe Block The'Pipe Block* is a fitting used for stopping water or liquid flowing through a pipe or duct.
How it Works When a person wants to work or make a connection on a live pipe or duct i. e. copper, lead steel plastic etc with water or other liquids flowing through it, they must either drain down the system or freeze the pipe if there is no stop tap on the line.
These methods are time consuming and messy.
The tool which I hope to explain to you carries out this operation in a couple of seconds.
Diagram 1 & 2 The tPIPE Block' (noO2 on the diagram) is fitted to the pipe (no, 1) This is done by loosening the clamp whose inside circumference is equal that of the outside of the pipe, with a type of allen key (no. 5). The clamp opens up on a hinge (no10). It is then ptt around the pipe and tightened again. The clamp is rubber lined (no. 4) so it grips the pipe securely : Then a drills bit or socket (no. 14) is fitted to the spigott (no. 8) of the* block. When turned the cutting head (no. 3) moves forward through the treaded area (no. 7). The cutting. head which has an outside diameter equivelent to the inside of the pipe, cuts through the pipe and seilles in the chamber (no. 12). As it cuts through the pipe the cutting head is followed by the barrel which is surrounded in heavy rubber (no. 6) whose diameter is slightly greater than that of the cutting head and is bullnosed shaped at the front to allow it ease into the freshly cut pipe.
It follows the head as it cuts through the second wall of the pipe and as the cutting head enters the chamber the rubber surround barrel blocks the flow of the water. The cutting head is stopped in the correct position by the two buffers (no. 9) and the third buffer (noç13) pushes the two off cuts firmly behind the arrow shaped cutting head (inside the head) ; Thus the water is stopped and work can be carried out on the pipe.
Whep the work is carried out you attache to the spiger-c or the ELeckagain and reverse action. This withdraws the cutting head back to its origional position and seals the'Pipe Block'.
The water flows freely again and the pipe block is leSt on the pipe and can be used again as often as needed.
If the fitting looks obtrusive it can be covered neatly with a cap or cover.
It should be possible to use this fitting on any size of pipe pro rata.

Claims (9)

  1. Claims 1) A Pipe Block is a tool or fitting made from heavy plastic or metal or a combination of both which is placed on a pipe or duct quickly and securely to curtail or stop completely the flow of water or any other liquid leaving no mess.
  2. 2) A Pipe Block as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a clamp which is rubber lined opens on a hinge and is secured firmly around the pipe or duct by means of two screws which are tightened with an allen key.
  3. 3) A Pipe Block as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a cutting tool (cutting head) is driven down through the barrel of the fitting by means of a power drill which is attached to the spigott of the cutting tool, cuts through the walls of the pipe or duct and stops where it meets the buffers.
  4. 4) A Pipe Block as claimed in Claims 1,2, and3 wherein the stem of the cutting tool, part of which is surrounded in heavy rubber, the lengbh and circumference of the rubber being slightly greater than the breadth and circumference of the pipe stops the flow of the water or liquid as it follows the forward motion of the cutting head and accomadates the pipe.
  5. 5) A Pipe Block as claimed in Claims 1,2,3, and 4 wherein a power drill is again connected to the spigott of the cutting tool, reverse action will-take the tool back down through the threaded area again out of the pipe until it meets the buffers again the rubber surround stem settles back into its original position sealing the barrel of the fitting and water flows freely through the pipe, leakage is prevented by the rubber lined clamp.
  6. 6) A Pipe block as claimed in Claims 1,2,3,4, and 5 wherein the rubber surround stem of the cutting head can be coated with a lubricant to allow easy movement through the fitting.
  7. 7) A Pipe block as claimed in Claims 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 wherein the two off cuts from the pipe after the cutting head has cut through are driven securly into the recessed cutting head whose cutting edge is arrow shaped, by a buffer and cannot escape.
  8. 8) A Pipe block as claimed in Claims 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7 is left on the pipe and can be used again for the same purpose whenever required.
  9. 9) A Pipe block as described herein with reference to diagrams 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
