Abstract
A high shock load-bearing guide roller comprises a collar 10, a bush 12 of self-lubricant polymeric material such as nylon in the collar, a sleeve 18 in the bush and a shaft through the sleeve, the contiguous surfaces between the collar and the bush and/or the sleeve and the bush being slidably rotatable. The assembly may include spacer washers 16, 22. <IMAGE>
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION this invention relates to a bearing roller and is particularly concerned with a high stock toad-bearing guide roller for the mast of a fork lift or like apparatus.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
The conventional guide roller for a fork lift lias a collar with a ball bearing race interposed between ttie collar and a shaft. In certain applications, even the best of such rollers falls and in the particular application of fork lift apparatus, the mast rollers have very short lives because they are unable to resist the high shocks involved.
Self-lubricating rollers are known which have a thin lubricating material such as polyesters, polyamines and the like, interposed between the inner and outer races for hiyh speeds and these are thin so that adequate Treat transfer is possible. The lubricating material is unable to resist shock.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a roller which has a far longer life than conveiitioiial rollers, and welch is less expensive to manufacture, and which is not subect to the usual disadvantages of dirl collection and the like, inilerent in ball bearings
In the drawings, a collar 10 of hardened steel receives a bush 12 of nylon or other self-lubricant polymer. this bush tias a recess 14, which accepts a mild steel spacer washer 16, and finally a hardened sleeve 18 fits into the bush 12 with a slight clearance to permit slidable rotation.
An optional flange 20 is provided which bears against the washer 16, and a second spacer 22 is provided to bear against tulle other side of the bush 12.
Claims (4)
1. A high shock load-bearing guide roller including a collar, a
bush of self-lubricant polymeric material in the collar, a
sleeve In the busty and a shaft through the sleeve, the
contiguous surfaces between the collar and the bush and/or the
sleeve and the bush being slidably rotatable.
2. The roller. as claimed in claim t, in which the bush Is of
nylon.
3. The roller as claimed in either of the above claims in which a
spacer washer is provided between bush and sleeve.
4. A guide roller substantially as described with reference to
the accompanying drawlllgs.
