Abstract
The Bath Tub Radio is a design of exterior shell which houses a normal AM/FM radio powered by batteries. It is designed to sit on the upper rim of the bath tub facing the corner of two walls. It has a rear speaker design which uses the acoustic properties of the bathroom and aiding in the avoidance of water splashes on the speaker. It is anchored to the wall and top rim of the tub by suction cups which also serve to separate the unit from the wall in order to let sound reflect and travel around the unit.
Description
BATH TUB RADIO
DESCRIPTION
FIELD: Radio for use on or near a bath tub.
This invention relates to an AM/FM, battery powered radio with the exterior design that will make use of the shelf space on the upper corner edge of a bath tub and being non-permanently fixed. It will also make use of the refective properties of the bath room by virtue of design of speaker placement. Further, it will or may make use of exterior design features which would help to lessen the chance of water splashes entering and possibly damaging the electrical components contained inside.
SPECIFICATION
(with reference to drawngs: figures 1 - 4)
This invention is on the design and specification of the outer casing (1) , its mounting (2) and speaker placement (3) of an ordinary
AM/FM/ radio which runs on battery power with the intent to operate on or near a bath tub.
This invention has a single rear mounted speaker (3) which is directed at the corner of two walls (usually covered in highly reflective material) utilizing the acoustic properties of the room.
It will sit on the top of the tub and secured by rubber suction cups (2) or other means which will separate the radio from the wall allowing for the sound waves to travel around the unit itself. A cone shaped part of the casing (4) faces the speaker with its narrow end which will aid in sound direction.
In order to make the best use of the space usually availabe on most bath tubs, the BATH TUB RADIO is rectangular in shape as you would look down upon it (figure 4).
The bath tub radio uses replaceable batteries or battery (also known as DC or direct current) power. Batteries can be loaded in (for example) from a hindged door at the top (5).
Since the radio is an electrical device and the proposed operation of the unit is near water, a certain amount of water resisting design may be incorporated in order to, not necessarily make the unit water tight, but rather to make it resist water splashes. The speaker is protected to a large degree by virtue of the rear mounting. The casing will have a grill over the speaker with (for example) each section of the grill pointing downwards at an angle to allow the water to readilly flow away from the speaker. Also, the on/off and
AM/FM switches and tuning and volume knobs will use outside casing designs# in order to resist and repel water splashes without having to design the electrical components in any special way.
Suction cups (2) secure the unit to the wall and tub and will act not only as a means of anchoring the unit, but also to allow the sound to travel around the unit as stated previously. There is one or two suction cups mounted on the bottom and one to three on either side.
This may vary.
An internally mounted antennae, as usual with most radios, will e mounted on the interior of the casing.
Claims (5)
1) An AM/FM, battery powered radio for use on or around the bath tub comprising of an outer casing which, by virtue of it's design, resists water splashes and utilizes the acoustic properties of the bath room for sound reproduction and is secured in place.
2) An AM/FM battery powered radio as claimed in claim 1 where the design of the knobs which are used to operate the unit and the speaker which is used for sound reproduction, provide a deterrent for water splashing to enter the interior of the unit.
3) An AM/FM battery powered radio as claimed in claim 1 and 2 wherein the placement of the speaker (3) and external design of the outer casing utilize what is known as a "W" speaker bin or "reverse loaded" effect for sound reproduction.
4) An AM/FM battery powered radio as claimed in claims 1, 2, and 3, where the unit is secured, but separated from the wall and base by means of rubber suction cups (2) attached to the outer casing (1) on the bottom and on the two rear sides.
5) An AM/FM battery powered radio as claimed in claim 1 whereas the shape of the unit is triangular (as would be when looking down on the unit)(see figure 4) but not necessarily symectrical, in order to utilize the space at the top and back (by the two walls) of an ordinary bath tub.
