Abstract

A board game for two or more players relating to "schools" and school life which involves moving around a board through different class rooms and school areas, for example, playground, detention and canteen, and answering questions on different subjects on pick-up cards. Scoring can be done by merit and demerit cards or by housepoints, black marks or stars. It can be played individually or in teams or by one player electing to be a teacher and having control of the answers or adapted for younger children and set out in bright colours. The game when adapted for younger children would encourage children to develop an idea of what school will be like and teach them more controlled behaviour, e.g. if they landed on a 'silent square'; small toys could be used for the playing elements and good behaviour would be encouraged by the awarding of stars. Pegs could be used instead of merit and demerit cards. <IMAGE>

Description

A BOARD GAME This invention relates to a board game.
From one aspect the invention consists in a game relating to Schools including a board defining a playing track, play elements for moving around the track, cards and score elements obtainable in dependance of the position of the play elements on the track and an item of apparrel, badge or the like to be worn by a player to indicate a penalty.
For example, the items may be a dunce's cap and the penalty may be a missed turn. From another aspect the invention consists in a game substantially as hereinafter described.
The score elements can be merits & demerits,housepoints/black marks or stars/blackmarks.
Also it could be possible for different colour teams to play the game, Red, Yellow, Blue & Green teams.
Each team would also be given a name.
On the board are 6 classrooms, for variation, a pack of cards could be placed in each classroom, with questions relating to the lesson at the time. In the P.E. class, cards could determine different exercises to be undertaken on the players turn. A booklet can be provided for the answers in other lessons.
If this version is played then a player can act as "Teacher" and would be the only one with the answer book. The "Teacher" could also keep the score for that game. The winner of that game could then be given a "First Class" certificate.
The next version can be for younger children and could be taken into nursery or preschool classes with a much simpler version of play, for example the young children could do "Skipping or hopping" drawing or writing and their school teacher could include all children in the game, including the shy or nervous type.
As it is for the young child then bright coloured stars or even a sweet could be given as a reward. Also certain parts of the board could have a true picture of what school will be like when the children begin full-time education.
An example of this could be "Silent" square to teach the youngsters that they have to be a little bit more controlled and well behaved as they get older.
Lots of other activities could be included in paralel to school education being taught today.
For the 3-5 year old I think that "Schooltime" is a good title, for the 6-10 age bracket "School Days" and the 10 year old and upwards "Schools Out" In the older version a Dunce's cap is worn, so as not to discourage infant pre-school children from playing, a star hat could be worn.
This could make a child feel good, as they are very concious at that age of being "Best" for their techer.
The design of the board for the younger child would have a lot of colourful happy squares and the elements used could be small toys.
Included in the older version, can be small pads and pencils which will be used for writing"lines'! Description & Contens for "Schools Out" & School Time" Board The basic outlay of the board.
There are six classrooms, - Detention Room. 1 Payground and 1 Canteen. There are 3 small squares on the Board, an M Square, D. M. Square and a "Pick a Card" square, on each of these squares will be packs of cards according to the names of the squares, i,e. merit cards will be placed on the M square and so on. Some variations could be made available which I will explain further on.

On the older version a pack of cards would be included for each classroom.
Players would then play according to the cards they picked up.
Some of the square on the board would probably be changed to accommodate the extra questions.
"School Days" "Schools Out" RULES (1) Each player throws the dice to determine who goes first.
Highest number goes first, second highest next and so on.
Once order of play has been determined play begins.
Each player must thrown a six to start.
(2) Once a player has entered school gate they do not take a second turn of the dice if they throw a six.
Only one throw per go unless directed otherwise.
(3) Detention Room When a player is sent to "Detention" they must go into the detention square. They must throw a six on their turn of the dice to get out of detention. They then return to the square, rethrow the dice and move forward.
(4) Dunce's Hat When a player lands on a "dunces Hat" they must, wear the hat, stand in a corner, miss 1 turn.
(5) Pick A Card Square" When a player lands on one of these squares, they must take the top card and obey any instructions, when the card is finished with, it must be replaced at the bottom of the pack.
(6) Star Chance Square There is only on star chance square on the board.
If a player lands on this square they can take a chance and throw the dice again. If it lands on a six, they can return all D.Merit cards and keep the merit cards.
If it is less than a six then they must pick up another 2 D.Merits.
A player landing on this square does not have to take a chance, but instead can carry on waiting for his next turn.
(7) When each player arrives Home he/she must wait for all other players to finish. Then all players must deduct their D.Merits from their merits. The player with the most merits is the winner.
The winner will then receive a First Class Scroll.
(8) "Pick a Card" (1) Repeat 3 Times Table (2) You've passed all exams, return 3 D.Merits (3) You've failed all exams. Collect 3 D.Merits (4) Cheeked Teacher 1 D.Merit (5) Sown good example to younger pupils 2 Merits (6) Disobedient in Class. Miss a turn (7) Excellent sportsperson. Advance 2 spaces (8) Hurried your work. Untidy 1 D.Merit (9) Picking on Teachers pet 1 D.Merit (10) Blowing respberries in assembly Detention (11) Write 5 lines " I must not make faces at Teacher" (12) First in Road Safety Test. 2 Merits (13) Collected for Pensioners Xmas party. 3 Merits (14) Write 10 lines "I must not cheat in my exams. Miss a turn (15) Repeat any nursery rhyme.
(9) If the older version is being played then each player will pick up a card in the lesson they are in and obey instructions on that card, or answer questions on the card.
The Teacher will tell them if they are correct or incorrect, also will give them the score indicated in the answer book.
Some cards will have the score written on them i.e. for P.E.
lessons.
(10) The person who is "teacher" must not help any pupil and must keep a correct score.
(11) When the older version is being played one person must be "Teacher" to keep score.
(12) If the Team version is played then each Team must pick a Captain. All Captains throw the dice. The Highest scored will determine which goes first, then each team will decide what order each member of that team will play.
Play then begins with the Captain from each team taking the first turn and then each team member takes their turn. for example.
Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green and so on.
All team members must finish before score is added (13) When all teams are finished the Captins from each team must add all score elements, and deduct all penalty scores.
The team with the highest score is the winning team.
If two scores are equal the game is a draw.

Claims (13)

1 A board game for two or more players relating to schools including a board defining a playing track moving through different classrooms and class areas, e.g. detention, playground, canteen, with playing elements for moving around the track, pick-up cards and scoring and penalty elements, which are obtained depending upon the position of the playing elements on the track.
2 A board game as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the play elements could be items used in school, for example, a book, pencil, school cap or pupil.
3 A board game as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the scoring elements could be merits and demerits.
4 A board game as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the players could play in teams electing a captain and the scoring elements could be housepoints.
5 A board game as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the scoring elements could be black marks or stars.
6 A board game as claimed in any preceding claim wherein landing on a penalty position may indicate the wearing of a dunce's cap and being directed to stand in a corner and missing a turn.
7 A board game as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a pack of cards could be placed in each classroom with questions relating to the lesson at the time.
8 A board game as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the P.E. class could determine different exercises to be undertaken on the player's turn.
9 A board game as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a version could be played where one player acted as a teacher and kept control of the answer book.
10 A board game as claimed in Claim 1 for younger children where the playing track would move through a nursery or pre-school class with a simpler version of play.
11 A board claim as claimed in Claim 10 using brightly coloured squares. The playing elements could be small toys and stars or sweets could be given as a reward.
12 A board game as claimed in Claim 10 and 11 wherein there could be a 'silent square' as a means of teaching and preparing young children for the more controlled behaviour of school.
13 A board game substantially as described herein with different versions for different age groups with reference to the drawing submitted with the description.
