Abstract
A vehicle body on permanent skids 4 is clamped to auxiliary skids 3. The above combination can now travel through the plant sideways via non-powered rollers 1. Index movement is achieved by a rack 2 system. The non powered rollers 1 are on the roll-over table 5 above each tank. As the body arrives over the tank 5 the skids 3,4 are clamped, or located via locking pins, to the roll-over table 5 top in a manner to support the inverted body. Through 180 DEG , holding this position for returning to origin position. The body can now be moved to the next tank as required. <IMAGE>
Description
Index & Roller-Over Vehicle Body
Pre Treatment Plant This invention relates to the means of moving a vehicle hotJ through a fu'l immersion Dip Process Pretreatment facilities ('30 plus') units per hr).
Manufacturers requiring full Dip Process at present OPT for indexing shsters which have many undesireable & unavoidable features. The bodies are clamped to frame-tables which are lowered at various angels to sink the body. This action takes time (30-sec) to allow air to escape from body panels. Xn alternative system would be to handle the Dip Process by crane system, this again takes excessive time related to the production cycle time.
The invention proposed is a concept for Dip Process facilities using @ a collection of standard mechanisms in such a manner as to create a very simple index traversing plant; to process up to 30 upb (relative to process times in tanks) with many spin-off advantages over current systems.
The invention is for the pretrestrent plant, via non powered rollers situated on a roll-over table above every dip tak. Propulsion travel would be achieved by moving the body with a rack-bar system. Each Roll-over table has mechanisms to support the body while it turns through 190 .

Referring to drawing Figure 1, it indicates a body on pernanent skids @, clamped to auxiliary skids 2, located on non-ower rollers 3.
The body will be immersed by rotating the roll-over table 4 though 180 .
The turning table 4 clears the rack-Mar 5.
Rack 5 positions the body over the various Dir Tanks. As the body rotates the rack can index sack to its origin.
Reference drawings figures 2, 3, 4 these indicate the simplicity of the concept.
Claims (1)
- Claim - 1A concept design for body movement within a vehicle body pretreatment plant.The body mounted on permanent skids, will be clamped to auxiliary skids which will enable the body to move sideways, via non-powered rollers.These rollers are situated over every Dip tank mounted on a roll-over table.To fully immerse, the body must be turned through 1800 the body enters the fluid front end first attitude.Movement between the tanks is caused by an index rack bar, return to its origin, the rack engages both skids (ref drg) to positively locates the body over each tank.Claim - 2 A roll-over concept design as claim 1 but replace non-powered rollers with pneumatic driven rollers this deletes need for racking feature.Claim - 3 A roll-over concept as claim - 2 but delete permanent skids attaching the aux skids direct to the body.Claim - 4 A roll-over concept as claim - 1 but delete the permanent skids. Modify rack design to engage the aux skids.Claim - 5 A roll-over concept as claim 1 but with the body entering the fluid rear end first.
