Description

MOULDS The present invention relates to moulds used in the manufacture of bricks and to methods for making such moulds.
In the manufacture of bricks from an aggregate of materials, it is customary to compact the aggregate into individual moulds arranged in an open matrix forming a mould box resting upon a flat surface and then to withdraw the mould box upwardly to leave an array of brick-shaped mouldings which may then be removed for subsequent processing.
It is desirable that the corners of the moulds should be rounded and it is important that the moulds should be as strong and durable as possible to withstand the forces applied during moulding and the wear and tear consequent upon such use.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved mould with these objectives in mind.
The present invention consists in a mould box which consits of a number of metal sheets each having a matrix of mould apertures, the sheets being laminated together with their apertures in alignment. so that each series of aligned apertures forms an open mould in a matrix of moulds In the accompanying drawings : Figure 1 is a plan view of a corner portion of one form of mould box according to the present invention, and Figure 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
In carrying the invention into effect according to one convenient mode by way of example, the accompanying drawings show a mould box formed by laminating together under pressure a number of flat metal sheets 11 with the aid of a bonding agent between the sheets.
Each metal sheet 11 has cut out from it, for example, with the aid of a laser cutting machine, a series of mould apertures 12 of generally rectangular form with rounded corners, the apertures 12 forming a rectangular matrix in the sheet.
When the box is assembled, rods or pins 13 are fitted in holes in the sheets to ensure alignment of corresponding apertures in adjacent sheets. When the assembly has been completed, each series of alignment apertures 12 forms an open mould in the box. A number of the sheets have integral extensions as shown at 14 to form flanges by means of which the box may be handled.
The external margins of the uppermost mould apertures 12 are chamfered as at 15. Each mould aperture 12 is provided with notches 16 so that each completed mould -has grooves to form projections or spacers on the moulded product Various modifications may be made within the scope of the present invention.

Ct#ATMS : -
1. A mould box which consists of a number of metal sheets each having a matrix of mould apertures, the sheets being laminated together with their apertures in alignment so that each series of aligned apertures forms an open mould in a matrix of moulds.
2. A mould box as claimed in claim 1, wherein the mould apertures are of generally rectangular form with rounded corners.
3. A mould box as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the metal sheets have aligned apertures through which pass rods or pins.
4. A mould box as claimed in claim 1. 2 or 3, wherein a number of the metal sheets have integral extensions to form handling flanges for the box.
5. A mould box as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the external margins of the uppermost mould apertures are chamfered.
6. A mould box as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein each mould aperture is provided it notches so that each mould has grooves to form projections or spacers on the moulded product.
7. A mould box substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
