Abstract

The invention is concerned with a cabinet with dispensing means for drinks, in particular for wine, which cabinet, for dispensing drinks packed in non-rigid vacuum packs, has a cabinet body (1) with an internal space and a hinged door (9). In the internal space there is a support (13) for at least one box (16) which contains a non-rigid vacuum pack containing drink and having an outwardly projecting valve which is connected by way of tubing (17) to a tap (11) in a front side of the cabinet body. <IMAGE>

Description

Cabinet with dispensing means The invention is concerned with a cabinet with dispensing means for drinks, in particular, but not exclusively, wine.
Conventional barrels having a tap lying in the vicinity of the base of the barrel, or dispensing systems operating with pumps which allow drinks which are dispensed without supply of carbon dioxide to be poured out, are examples of known containers with dispensing means. For pouring out wine, it is particularly important for the wine to be protected from oxygen and bacteria, in order to preserve the freshness of its taste and its sparkle. The easy-to-use, non-rigid vacuum packs have therefore proved advantageous as packaging for wines. So that a non-rigid vacuum pack of this kind, even after it has been opened, maintains a vacuum protecting the wine, it has a special valve which prevents a back-flow of air as wine is being poured out.
For the protection and improved storage of the non-rigid vacuum packs, such packs are provided with an outer box, non-rigid vacuum packs for five and ten litres being most common.
It is therefore the aim of the invention to produce a cabinet with dispensing means for drinks packed in non-rigid vacuum packs.
The present invention provides a cabinet with dispensing means for wine or other drink, the cabinet comprising: (a) a cabinet front with a lower wall section joined to a cabinet body and a hinged door arranged above the lower wall section; (b) at least one externally operable dispensing tap arranged in the said wall section; (c) support means in the internal space behind the hinged door to receive, in use, a box containing a non-rigid vacuum pack containing a drink and having an outwardly projecting valve; and (d) tubing, at the inner side of the wall section, connected to the inlet of the tap and couplable to the valve to allow the outflow of the drink by gravity.
The invention can be used, as shown in the illustrated embodiment to provide a system of serving wine, indeed chilled or unchilled as desired, which accommodates several wines, preferably in ten litre quantities, which can then be drawn off externally. A closed line system with connecting couplings ensures that the vacuum (exclusion of the atmosphere) is maintained right to the tap. Moreover, the-cabinet with dispensing means can be combined with a cooling system, so that areas of different t-emperature can be created, whereby even red wine can be dispensed at an ideal 170C and white wine can be dispensed at 60C.
Finally, the wine flows out freely, purely as a result of gravity, virtually right down to the last drop, without the use of pumps.
A cabinet with dispensing means constructed in accordance with the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing which shows a cabinet with dispensing means which at the same times serves as a refrigerator. It is possible to omit the cooling assemblies completely if the cabinet with dispensing means is simply to be a dispenser, as such a cabinet may be used, for example, exclusively for red wines.
The single figure of the drawing is a largely diagrammatic longitudinal section taken perpendicularly to the front of the cabinet, and omits tnose cos Os tS of which details will not be needed by the skilled reader; it is obvious, for example, that other components must be present in the case of compressor or evaporator refrigerators.
In the body 1 of the cabinet a useful area is bounded by means of conventional thermally insulating walls 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7; towards its front side the useful area is accessible through a door (shown open) attached by hinges 8 and which is also thermally insulated. Beneath the door 9 there is a thermally insulated wall section 10 in which three taps 11 are accommodated side by side; of these taps, only one is visible in the sectional illustration. Beneath the useful area and behind the thermally insulated wall 6 there is a cooling assembly 12.
On the side wall 4 and on the wall opposite, there are arranged L-shaped brackets 13, 14, 15, and on each pair of opposing brackets a container 16 can be positioned, of which only one is shown.
The taps 11 pass right through the wall section 10 and by means of a hose or tube 17 of flexible plastics material their inlet inside the cabinet is extended upwardly sufficiently far for the hose or tube to be attached by way of a coupling 18 to the dispensing valve of the relevant non-rigid vacuum pack located in the outer box. The hoses or tubes are preferably secured by means of clips 9 or similar devices to the side wall so that they do not hinder the exchange of the drink packs; the free end of each hose or tubes long enough, however, to allow the uncoupling and coupling up.
A heat-exchanger 20 is arranged level with the uppermost pack, so that a temperature gradient isproduced, whereby, for example, white wine in the uppermost storage area, ros wine in the middle storage area and red wine in the lowermost storage area are maintained at the correct temperature.
The references throughout this specification and claims to "vacuum" are to be understood to imply the exclusion of the atmosphere rather than meaning a space entirely devoid of matter.

Claims (11)

Claims:
1.
