Abstract

A pipe coupling (11), suitable for manufacture entirely of plastics material, for any diameter of inserted pipe (not shown) and internal pressure, has a gripping ring (19) housed in a socket with projections (20) extending through apertures in the socket and terminating in camming portions (22), which cooperate with camming portions (24) inside a sleeve (23) rotatable on the socket to cause the gripping ring (19) to be urged inwards into gripping contact with a pipe inserted into the socket. The coupling (11) may also house a sealing ring (17) for effecting sealing between the inserted pipe and the socket, when a liquid or gaseous medium is conveyed through the pipe. However, a sealing ring is not essential.
