Abstract

A collapsible trolley is designed to transport shopping bags etc; and when not in use can be folded away for easy storage or be carried. It comprises an upright frame which can be extended or lowered via telescopic legs 3. Swivel joint 2 facilitates folding down of the handle 1. A platform is lowered and opened via hinges 8, 9 and 11, with cantilevers 5 and 6 holding the structure rigid. Wheels 13 are fitted to the lower body section 4 for mobility, and for supporting the load, fabric 12 is used to cover the platform and lower upright frame sections. For more flexibility in use the handle 1 can be replaced for another specially designed to fit into a bracket fixed to the rear of a bicycle so the trolley and its load can be towed (not illustrated). <IMAGE>

Description

COILAPSARE TROILY This invention relates to a collapsable trolly Shoping trollies are widely used for carrying large amounts of groceries.
The majority consist of a rigid frame with a large bag attached and although very good for walking along paths, when full they are much to heavy to lift, for example getting on or off a bus, loading into the boot of a car, or carrying up stairs.
According to the present invention there is provided a collapsable trolly comprising a telescopic upright frame with means to lock when in use, a moveable handle joint with a detachable handle, a hinged platform with means for supporting and locking it then in use, wheels, fabric to cover platform and lower upright frame and means for temporarily attaching the trolly to a bicycle to facilitate it being towed by the bicycle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIG I Shows the trolly fully closed FIG 2 Shows the trolly with the handle raised FIG 5 Shows the trolly fully extended with the platform lowered FIG 4 Shows the trolly completely open Referring to the drawing the trolly comprises a main frame 4 which consists of at least one set of telescopic legs 3 with a handle .joint 2 enableing movement in one or more directions for legs 5, also connected to handle Soint 2 is a detachable handle I. At the base of main frame 4 there is provided at least one cantilever 6 with fabric I2 covering the gap between frame 4.
The platform section comprises of two arms 7 connected to the main frame 4 by hinged devices 8, also connecting frame 4 to arms 7 are cantilevers 5, these also act as leg supports when in the open position. At the front of arms 7 are swivel hinges 9, connecting the front bar IO, this in turn consists of no less than two sections jointed by a hinged mechanism II.
The gap between arms 7 is also covered by fabric I2, wheels It are provided at the base of frame 4.
To open the trolly the handle I is raised by means of the handle joint 2 swivelling where it joins the telescopic legs 7 as shown in Fig 2 these are then extended from main frame 4. The platform arms 7 are lowered, extending and locking cantilevers 5 as shown in Fig 3. The frame 4 can then be opened by pushing down and locking cantilever 6, this also has the effect of opening the front bar IO as well as locking legs 3 in handle joint 2.
To enable the trolly to be towed by a bicycle the handle I can be replaced by another of a different shape, this would then be attached to the rear of a bicycle by means of a bracket ( not illustrated ) the bracket being permanently attached to the bicycle. Larger wheels would need to be fitted if used in this way.
To collapse the trolly the steps described above are carried in reverse sequence.

Claims (1)

  1. (I) A collapsable trolly comprising a telescopic upright frame with means to lock when in use, a moveable handle joint with a detachable handle, a hinged platform with means for supporting and locking it when in use, wheels, fabric to cover platform and lower upright frame and means for temporarily attaching the trolly to a bicycle to facilitate it being towed by the bicycle.
    (2) A collapsable trolly as claimed in claim I wherein the handle joint will swivel on the uppermost point of the legs, and when upright will allow the legs to move sideways pivoting at the joint and become locked in the rear of the handle joint body.
    (3) A collapsable trolly as claimed in claim I wherein the body of the hinges will partially rotate on the arms whilst holding the front bar rigid in the hinged section.
    (4) A collansable trolly as claimed in claim I wherein a bent handle section locates into a bracket permanently fitted to a bicycle, while the other end locates into the trolly handle joint.
    (5) A collapsable trolly as claimed in claim 4 wherein a bracket is adapted to fit a bicycle frame so as to accommodate one end of the handle while the other end thereof is located in the trolly handle joint.
CLAIMS (6) A collapsable trolly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein means are provided to hold in position the front bar when open ( i.e springs ).
    (7) A collapsable trolly as claimed in claim 6 wherein means are provided to unlock the front bar when folding the trolly up ( i. e cord connected to the front bar going under the platform fabric and up the back of the trolly).
    (s) A collapsable trolly substantially as described herein with reference to Figures I - 4 of the accompanying drawing.
