Abstract
A sheet system for a bed comprises an upper sheet 10 and a lower sheet 11. The upper sheet 10 is secured to the lower sheet along the lower edge to leave the lower sheet with a marginal edge portion 12. The upper sheet is also secured partly along the side edges to leave the lower sheet with marginal edge portions 13. The edge portions 12 and 13 are sufficiently wide to tuck beneath the mattress or may be provided with elasticated inserts which together with a further elasticated insert in a further marginal edge portion along the upper edge of the lower sheet, act to retain the sheet system in position relative to the mattress. <IMAGE>
Description
"SHEET SYSTEM"
This invention relates to a sheet system for a bed.
The conventional way of making a bed is to place the lower sheet over the mattress of the bed and to tuck at least the side edges and the lower edge of the sheet, beneath the mattress. The upper sheet is then placed in position and the process is repeated although in this case the top or head end of the sheet may be folded towards the bottom end of the sheet and the side edges may not be tucked completely beneath the mattress. The process of placing the sheets in position is therefore time consuming to which must be added any further work necessary to complete the making of the bed.
The object of the invention is to provide a sheet system for a bed, the use of which will reduce the time and labour required for making a bed.
According to the invention a sheet system for a bed comprises first and second sheets the first and upper sheet in use being secured to the second and lower sheet, along the lower edge and partly along the side edges so as to leave marginal edge portions along the lower edge and the side edges of the lower sheet, said marginal edge portions being utilised in use to secure the sheet system relative to the mattress.
An example of a sheet system in accordance with the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of the system.
With reference to the drawings the sheet system comprises first and second sheets 10, 11 the second sheet in use being the lower sheet. The lower sheet is provided with a marginal edge portion 12 at its lower end and marginal edge portions 13 along its sides. The marginal edge portions may be sufficiently wide to tuck beneath the mattress of the bed or as shown, they can be arranged to form box edges and be provided with elasticated inserts to provide a so-called fitted sheet. In this case a marginal edge portion (not shown) would also be provided at the upper or head end of the sheet to help secure the sheet system in position.
The lower end of the upper sheet 10 is secured to the lower sheet as also are portions of the side edges of the upper sheet, the extent of the securement of the side edges being indicated in the drawing by the letter H. The remaining portions of the side edges of the upper sheet are left free to allow easy access to the bed in use. The upper sheet 10 is shown in the drawing to have boxed corners at the lower end thereof and in practice at least the width of the upper sheet is equal to the width of the lower sheet plus the marginal edge portions 13.
In making a bed with the sheet system as described it is only necessary to lay the lower sheet 11 upon the mattress of the bed and to locate the marginal edge portions 12 and 13 in position. Even if the lower sheet is not of the fitted variety, it is only necessary to tuck the marginal edge portions of the lower sheet beneath the mattress to secure the two sheets in position. There is therefore a substantial saving in the time and effort required to make the bed and the system will be secured in position..
Claims (4)
1. A sheet system for a bed comprising first and second
sheets, the first and upper sheet is use being
secured to the second and lower sheet along the
lower edge and partly along the side edges so as to
leave marginal edge portions along the lower edge
and the side edges of the lower sheet, said marginal
edge portions being utilized in use to secure the
sheet system relative to the mattress of the bed.
2. A sheet system according to claim 1 in which said
marginal edge portions are sufficiently wide t6 tuck
beneath the mattress of the bed.
3. A sheet system according to claim 1 in which said
marginal edge portions together with a further
marginal edge portion along the upper edge of the
lower sheet are provided with elasticated inserts
which act in use, to retain the sheet system
relative to the mattress of the bed.
4. A sheet system for a bed substantially as
hereinbefore described with reference to the
accompanying drawing.
