Abstract

The installation provides the dual function of an ornamental ceiling light as well as a hazard or security detector. It consists of a housing which forms an integral part of either a ceiling rose (Figure 2) or a pendant-style lamp (Figure 3). This housing contains electronic devices which can be a smoke detector, intruder alarm, light control switch or the like. These devices can be independent or in combination with each other and may be controlled by a remote control unit. The electric light installation operates most efficiently if there are perforations or slits in the housing to allow permeability. <IMAGE>

Claims (23)

  1. CLAIMS 1 An electric light installation comprising a housing containing electronic circuity having a number of operating devices wherein said operating devices can be independent or in combination with other active electronic devices.
  2. 2 An electric light installation according to claim 1, wherein said housing is incorporated into the ceiling rose.
  3. 3 An electric light installation according to claim 1, wherein said housing is incorporated into a light pendant.
  4. 4 An electric light installation according to claims 2 or 3, wherein the housing contains electronic Circuitry for carrying out a security - or hazard detection function.
  5. 5 An electric light installation according to claim 4, wherein the electronic circuitry contained within the housing includes a remote control receiver circuit.
  6. 6 An electric light installation according to claim 5, wherein said remote control receiver circuit is activated by a separate remote control unit and relays commands to the other electronic circuits, depending on instructions received.
  7. 7 An electric light installation according to any of the preceding claims wherein the electronic circuitry includes a smoke or flame detector.
  8. 8 An electric light installation according to claim 7, wherein the circuitry is arranged to produce an alarm signal when the detector detects smoke, gas or heat from flame in excess of a predetermined level.
  9. 9 An electric light installation according to claims 7 or 8, wherein the circuitry is arranged to produce a back-up escape light.
  10. 10 An electric light installation according to claim 9, wherein the back-up supply is one or more operating batteries.
  11. 11 An electric light installation according to claim 9, wherein the back-up supply is one or more operating rechargeable cells.
  12. 12 An electric light installation according to claims 10 or 11, wherein said back-up supply is tested by a manual push-button switch located on the housing.
  13. 13 An electric light installation according to claims 10 or 11, wherein said back-up supply is tested by the remote control unit.
  14. 14 An electric light installation according to any of the preceding, claims includes a dimmer circuit.
  15. 15 An electric light installation according to claim 14, wherein said dimmer circuit is controlled by the remote control receiver circuit.
  16. 16 An electric light installation according to any of the preceding claims wherein the electronic circuitry includes an intrusion detector.
  17. 17 An electric light installation according to claim 16, wherein the intrusion detector is an ultrasonic or infra-red detector.
  18. 18 An electric light installation according to claims 14 to 17 wherein the intrusion detector activates the dimmer circuit if the mains switch to the light is on.
  19. 19 An electric light installation according to claim 16, wherein the intrusion detector activates a noise emitter.
  20. 20 An electric light installation according to any of the preceding claims, wherein perforations or slits are incorporated into the housing thus allowing permeability.
  21. 21 An electric light installation according to claim 1, substantially as herein described with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
  22. 22 An electric light installation according to claims 2 or 3 substantially as herein described with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
  23. 23 An electric light installation according to claim 20, substantially as herein described with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
