Abstract

221,603. Anstiss, A. G. July 6, 1923. Scouring and polishing. -A machine for cleaning and polishing beans &c. comprises rollers 7, 10 one carrying helical brushes 8 and the other helical strips 11 of soft material such as sheepskin. The material is fed to the roller 7 from a hopper 6 by an oblique vane 21 mounted on a rotary shaft 20, a regulating-slide 19 being provided, and sand &c. is supplied through an aperture 23. Below the cleaning brushes 8 the casing is formed as a channel-shaped sieve 9 which may be of different meshes, the finer to separate the sand &c., and the coarser to allow the escape of foreign matter. The sand falls into a drawer 15, the bottom of which may be fitted with a slide 16 to allow the sand to be removed while the machine is in operation. The rollers may be made in sectors and mounted on a common spindle, and the lid and end of the casing may be removable, and the lid lined with metal.
