Abstract

The "C.F.I. Valve Locking Device" is a metal bar (formed as shown in Fig 2) which fits the underside of an industrial isolating process valve as typically shown in Fig 1. The formed bar (-'A'-) has a fixed handle (-'B'-) and a sliding sleeve (-'C'-) with a hook which is free to slide to a position which when firmly located restricts the movement of a valve operating handle. A method of locking the sliding sleeve will be a padlock or similar placed through matching holes drilled in the metal bar and the sliding sleeve. Only two holes will align to suit the position of the "C.F.I. Valve Locking Device" relative to the distance between the underside of the valve and the operating handle. On completion of maintenance work the "C.F.I. Valve Locking Device" can be removed and held in stock ready for re-use when required. <IMAGE>

Description

C.F.I. Valve Locking Pe@jce This invention relates to a device for locking an industrial process isolation valve principally in the closed position.
Industrial process isolation valves are frequently designed to operate from the open to closed position by turning the operating handle through 90 degrees.
As such they are a cause for concern with plant personnel when maintenence work is in progress. due to the ease with which they can be operated.
New valves can be purchased with an intecral locking device, however many valves are in service on industrial plants without such a facility.
Safety requirements are now demandin@ that valves during maintenence of process equipment should be ph@sicelly locked. usually in the closed position.
This invention will satisfy above without the need to modify each and every valve.
Accordin@ to the present invention there is pr@@ided a unit to temporarily lock and restrict the m@@ement of the @@eretin@ handle of a 90 decree turn valv@ b@ p@@@tj@@@r th "C.F.I. Fig 2 shows the variable positionin@ slee@e @@ @@ i@tecral part of the invention.
The "C.F.I. Valve Locking Device" comprises a metal bar - "A" shaped as shown in Fig 1 to fit the under@ide @f @ valve and project verticall@ upwards close to the valve operating handle.
At the top of the bar a rod - "P" is attached to allow the operator to apply adequate pressure between the underside of the valve and the hook which is an integral part of the sliding sleeve - "C".
Drlled holes in the bar and the sliding slo@@e ae arranged to allow a padlock or similar to firrl@ hold the position of the sleeve -consequently restricting the movement of the valve operating handle.
On the process pipework bein@ commissioned the padlock @r similar can be removed allowing the "C.F.I. Valve Locking Device" to be used on another application. leaving the process isolation valve to be operated in the normal manner.
