Description
j 2 0 6 17 0 DEVICE FOR CONNECTING A HOSE END TO A CONNECTING BRANCH The
invention relates to a device for connecting the end of a hose to a connecting branch, the device having as component of the connecting branch a nozzle serving for sliding on the hose end. A clamp encompassing the nozzle comprises at least two partial shells and has a tension lever closure, the tension lever of which is articulated to one partial shell and a spring of which detachably connects the tension lever to the other partial shell. There is arranged on the connecting branch an annular collar which is overlapped by retaining flanges at one side of the partial shells of the tension lever closurer while at the other side of the partial shells there are provided clamping flanges pressing the hose against the nozzle, in use. In that case, the annular collar has an extent (H) in a radial direction which is greater than the smallest distance of the retaining flanges from each other in the closed position of the clamp.
In such a device known from DE 34 17 924 C2, the connecting branch has at its one end a threaded bore having a hexagonal head. The connecting branch may instead be provided with a union nut or with half a claw coupling or similar connecting means.
The known device does not ensure that. in the case of non-central positioning,'the clamp cannot be raised by tilting over the annular collar and then removed from the nozzle. In addition# the known device has no means for connecting the clamp to the nozzle so that it cannot rotate.
The problem underlying the invention is therefore to improve a device having the generic f k features mentioned in the introduction, in such a manner that the clamp can be simply and detachably connected to the connecting branch while being secured against rotation about the nozzle axis and against axial removal from the nozzle.
To solve this problem, it is proposed"according to the invention, in the case of the generic device, that there are formed on the annular collar two projections which form a fork. accommodate between them a hinge pin connecting the partial shells of the clamp and pass through apertures in the partial shells. and that the annular collar has on its side diametrally opposed to the projections a radial extension of a length L > H/2 and is appropriately adapted to the internal circumference of the clamp in its closed position.
As a result of the fact that there are formed on the annular collar two radial projections which pass through apertures in the partial shells in the region of the hinge pin, the clamp is prevented from being able to turn in the circumferential direction about the nozzle. In the axial direction of the nozzle. the clamp has only the play delimited by the length of the hinge pin. A further limitation of axial movability can be achieved as in the case of the embodiment accordingly to DE 34 17 923 C2 by selecting the distance of the annular collar from the connecting branch so that it is not substantially greater than the thickness of the retaining flange.
The two projections forming a fork encompass the hinge pin which hingedly connects the partial shells of the clamp to one another. Within the slot in the fork the clamp can move in the radial direction so far until the partial shells come to rest at the protion of the t i d k annular collar diametrally opposed to the fork.
In order to keep this radial displaceability of the clamp with respect to the nozzle within the narrowest possible limitst so that the projections do not have to project so far beyond the external circumference of the clamp (risk of injury),there is provided on the external circumference of the annular collar at least one radial extension which has such dimensions that closure of the clamp is not prevented and that when the tension lever closure is open, even in the case of radial displacement of the clamp out of its central position, excessive pushing over the annular collar in the axial direction of the nozzle is prevented. This radial extension is formed at the side of the annular collar diametrally opposed to the projections and has such dimensions that the radial displaceability of the clamp with respect to the nozzle is kept within narrow limits.
In that case. it is especially advantageous if the annular collar with its radial extension has the form of a cam and is also so formed that it is adapted as far as possible to the internal circumference of the clamp in its closed position. -In this manner it is possible to keep the radial displaceability of the clamp with respect to the nozzle and simultaneously the axial movability of the clamp on the nozzle within very narrow limits and to render rotation of the clamp about the nozzle impossible.
The invention will now be described. by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a part-sectional side view of device of the invention, with a connecting branch being connected to an end of a hose by means of a clamp.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section along the line A-B of Figure li Figure 3 shows a cross-section along the line C-D of Figure 2. the clamp being in its closed position, and Figure 4 shows the same cross-section as in Figure 3, the clamp being open.
In the embodiment shown, the connecting branch 1 has the shape of half of a claw coupling. There is moulded to the connecting branch 1 in the axial direction a nozzle 2 onto which a hose end 3 is pushed and is clamped there by a clamp generally designated 4.
As a result of an annular collar 5 on the nozzle 2, the clamp 4 is prevented from movement both in the circumferential direction and the axial direction of the nozzle 2. For this purpose the annular collar 5 has, in the embodiment shown, two projections 6 which together form a fork, accommodate between them a hinge pin 8 connecting partial shells 7a and 7b of the clamp 4. and project radially through apertures 9 in the partial shells 7a and 7b. The radial extent R of the part of the collar 5 having the projections 6 is larger than half the smallest distance of the partial shells 7 from each other when the clamp 4 is closed. The projections 6 on the annular collar 5 prevent rotation of the clamp 4 in the circumferential direction of the nozzle 2.
Axial removal of the clamp 4 on the nozzle 2 is prevented by respective retaining flanges 10 on the partial shells 7a and 7b engaging over the annular collar 5, which flanges are opposed at the other side of the clamp by respective clamping flanges 11 on the partial shells 7a and 7b. The retaining flanges 10 have, for this purpose, dimensions such that even when 1 t the clamp is in its open position, shown in Figure 4, they do not lie outside the periphery of the annular collar 5.
The clamp has a tension lever closure. a tension lever 12 of which is pivotally connected to the end of partial shell 7b remote from the hinge pin 8. A spring 14 has one end connected to the tension lever 12 and its other end engaged in a slot 15 in the partial shell 7a. The tension lever closure thus acts as an over-centre mechanism operable between a closed position of the clamp shown in Figure 3. Where the clamping flanges 11 press the hose 3 against the nozzle 2, and an open position of the clamp shown in Figure 4, wherein the clamping flanges 11 are released from the hose 3.
In order thatt even after actuating the tension lever 12. the retaining flanges 10 cannot in the open position of the clam,4 be pushed axially over the annular collar 5, the latter has at its side diametrally opposed to the projections 6 an extension 13 having a radial length L > H/2, where H is the unextended extent of the annular collar 5 is a radial direction, as shown in Figure 3. As a result, the annular collar 5 has the shape of a cam which. as shown in Figure 3# corresponds to the internal circumference of the clamp 4 in its closed position. The extend H is greater than the smallest distance of the retaining flanges from each other in the closed position of the clamp.
1 The axial movability of the clamp 4 on the nozzle 2 is limited either by the distance A of the annular collar 5 from the connecting branch 1. or by the distance S of the retaining flanges 10 from the clamping flanges 11, depending on which is smaller.
1 1 The clamp 4 is assembled and dismantled if the spring 14 is pulled by its end out of the slot 15. When the spring 14 is detached, the partial shells 7a and 7b can be swung out about the hinge pin 8 fully for dismantling and when assembling, can be swung together locking the annular collar 5 between them. Thus, both assembly and dismantling can be carried out extremely simply.
