Abstract

The upper 2 has hollow passage 14 which extends along the topline 3 and which is open at its ends 14 in the region of facings 7 with eyelets 16. A lace 8 is threaded through the passage 14 and the eyelets 16. The facings 7 extend above the topline 3 and each have an eyelet in this region. The spacing d of the eyelets 16 from the medial edge 17 of each facing 7 is at least 1 cm. The facings 7 can be cut with scissors to suit the wearer's foot. Stiffening reinforcements 9, 11 made of a resilient cross-linked polyethylene are adhesively bonded respectively inside the toe region and the heel region of the upper 2. The footwear includes a sole 1 (e.g. of polyurethane or rubber) bonded to the upper 2. A middle sole 6 is also provided. <IMAGE>
