Abstract

Thread-through earrings for pierced ears have a chain 2 having a terminal threader 1, enabling the chain to be passed through the ear piercing, and a curved bridge portion 3 which rests in the ear when worn. Ornaments 4 may be threaded on the chain and held in place by a rubber cup 5 mounted on the threader. The chain may have two threaders and hang on both sides of the ear as shown or (Fig 3) the bridge can terminate in an ornamental plate which rests against the ear. For ears with several pierced holes, the chain passes through all the holes and has a bridge resting in each hole (Fig 5).

Description

THREAD THROUGH EARRINGS This invention relates to Th-read Through
Earrings.
2299258 Earrings are well known items ofjewellery which are dttached to the ear lobe, normally by means of hooks, clips, sleepers or similar.Security is achieved by clipping directly to the lobe itself or in the case of pierced ears by use of a hook,a sleeper ring or a small clip at the back of a thin post which prevents the earring from sliding out of the pierced lobe. The other end of the post carries an integral motif which rests against the front of the ear or hangs down.Ears which have these artificially created holes are referred to as pierced ears.
Formally the concentration of earring design has taken place at the front of the earring with an unsightly clip or clamping mechanism showing at the back of the ear.Thread Earrings have an equality of design both in front of the ear and behind it.Moreover the element of counter balance has not previously been a feature of earring design. Earrings have previously been sold in fixed designs with no expectation, on the part of the purchaser of the earrings, to be able to seek or facilitate the further embellishment of the product. This invention provides such, a facility. Many people now have multiple piercings and formally earrings'for pierced' ears have been designed to pass through a single piercing in the earlobe. Accordingly this invention utilizes the concept of linking several piercings with one artifact.
According to the present invention there is provided an earring for pierced ears comprising of a fine braided gold or silver chain,at each end of which is affixed a pendant threader. This threader is designed to easily penetrate through a pierced lobe and pulls a length of thin curb chain through the pierced ear lobe. The length of chain has integrated into it a curved bridge bar which is designed to rest within the hole pierced through the lobe. The fine chain and threaders hang down from the bridge bar either side of the pierced ear. The linking of several piercings in the same ear is also a feature of Thread Through Earrings.
Whilst this earring can be worn unadorned there is further provided a means by which the earring can be embellished with decorations of coloured beads. Beads can be threaded onto the chain by means of the pendant threader and are held in place by a rubber filled cup finding or similar pushed onto the threader.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be despribed by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows the earring resting in place having been threaded through the ear.Incorporating a drawing of the method by which the earring is threaded through the pierced lobe and a drawing of the earring separate from the ear.
Figure 2 shows the earring with beads threaded onto it.These beads are held in place by means of a rubber filled cup finding.A detail of a rubber filled cup finding is also shown.
Figure 3 shows the earring threaded through and held against the ear by means of an integral half bridge, chain and threader, shown with and without beads.lt shows the earring separate from the ear.
Figure 4 shows a hanging shape or motif integrally attached to the front of chain.
Figure 5 shows the earring with two bridges for threading through ears that have two piercings in one lobe.lt shows the earring separate from the ear.
As shown in Figure 1 the earring comprises of three essential elements, the threader 1,which is attached to the chain 2 that is atthched to the bridge 3. The threader 1 and chain 2 are passed through the pierced ear to hang down from the ear. A curved bridge 3 rests in the pierced ear lobe in a downward curve. The chain and threader hang down either side of the ear from the bridge. The earring bridge rests in the ear because the chain and threaders either side of the ear provide a small weight factor which holds it in place.
Figure 2 shows that in order to provide the wearer with their own choice of decoration and colour the earrings can be threaded with one or more beads 4 held onto the earring by means of a rubber filled cup finding 5 pressed onto the threader to secure the beads. These can be secured on threaders both in front and behind the ear.
Figures M4 show alternative frontal design elements 6 A-C of the earring design.
As shown in Figure 5 linking can be provided between several plercings on one earlobe.
