Abstract

229,836. Terry, C. Jan. 25, 1924. Grips, friction.-In a helical spring adapted to grip a rod 7 carrying an earpiece of a telephone head set and to be expanded to release its grip to facilitate adjustment of the rod, the wire is bent as shown to provide rings 1 and 6 in planes parallel to the axis of the. helix 3 and adapted to be pressed together to expand the helix. The ring 1 is connected to one end of the helix through a straight portion 2, and the ring 6 is connected to the other end through a portion 4 parallel to the portion 2 and a portion 5 bent at right angles to the portion 4 to bring its end into line with the portion 2.
