Abstract
A seed spreader that attaches to a packet of seeds (1) or bag, or envelope containing seeds, that when agitated will allow the seeds to pass from the packet into the seed spreader through the oval opening (2) along a narrowing tube (8) towards the wider open topped part of the seed spreader (3), where their progress is slowed down by a bar (4) which they pass on either side towards a "T" bar (5) which the seeds progress along on either side of towards the end of the "T" (6). They then progress out of the seed spreader through openings (7) as required. Once sufficient seeds have been distributed the seed spreader can be up-ended and all of the remaining seeds can return to the packet or bag for later use.
Description
SEED SPREAD.
According tc the present invention there is provided a hand held seed spreader shaped like a tube that is oval at one end for the secure attachment of a packet of seeds with finger and thumb, which then narrows towards an open topped part of the seed spreader that widens to reveal a bar in the centre of the open channel. The bar is provided to slow down the progress of the seeds as the seed spreader is agitated, the seeds will then progress to either side of a T bar until they hit the top of the "T" and progress through two openings at either side and out of the seed spreader as required, until enough seeds had been distributed. The seed spreader would then be up-ended to return all the unused seeds back into the seed packet or bag originally holding the seeds.
For the distribution of seeds into smaller pots or receptacles, the seed spreader could be tipped on one side, and when agitated the seeds would progress out of just one of the openings as required.
The seed spreader would essentially be manufactured out of plastic, and could be made of various sizes to accommodate larger packets of seeds as required.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIGURE 1 shows the seed spreader with the seed packet attached.
FIGURE 2 shows an aerial view of the seed spreader.
FIGURE 3 is a side view.
FIGURE 4 is an end view of the oval shaped end of the seed spreader.
Figure 1 shows the seed spreader with the packet of seeds (1) attached to the oval end (2), the seed spreader would be agitated to encourage the seeds to progress along the tub (8) towards the bar (4) that will slow down their progress. The bar (4) is located in the centre of the open topped part of the seed spreader (3). The seeds would then progress either side of the "T" bar (5) towards the end of the "tax' (6) and out of the seed spreader by the openings on either side (7).
Once the required amount of seeds had been distributed, the seed spreader could be tipped up so that the seeds would return through the tube (8) out of the-oval opening (2) and back into the seed packet (1) for later use.
If the seeds were required to go into a small receptacle the seed spreader could be tilted to one side and agitated so that the seeds progressed down just one side of the "T bar (5) and out of just one of the openings (7).
Claims (7)
1. A hand held seed spreader shaped like a tube that is oval at one end for the secure attachment of a packet of seeds with finger or thumb, which then narrows towards an open topped part of the seed spreader that widens to reveal a bar in the centre of the open channel provided to slow down the progress of the seeds as the seed spreader is agitated, the seeds will then progress to either side of the T" bar until they hit the top of the "T" and progress through two openings at either side and out of the seed spreader as required until enough seeds had been distributed, the seed spreader would then be up-ended to return all the unused seeds back into the seed packet or bag originally holding the seeds.
2. A seed spreader as claimed in claim 1 that could be of varying sizes to accommodate larger packets of seeds as necessary.
3. A seed spreader as claimed in claims 1 and 2 that could be provided with just one opening for distributing seeds into a smaller or more specific area.
4. A seed spreader as claimed in the previous claims that has a narrowing passage where a seed packet would be attached so that the packet would be attached more securely and prevent seeds escaping out of the packet and along the underside of the seed spreader.
5. A seed spreader as claimed in the previous claims that would be manufactured in plastic.
6. A seed spreader as claimed in all previous claims that would attach to a seed packet, bag, envelope or other receptacle, whereby the seed packet would remain attached throughout the time the seed spreader was being used.
7. A seed spreader as claimed in all previous claims and substantially described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings, figures 1-4.
