Abstract

A compound material being a combination of industrial diamonds, boron carbide and, optionally other hard minerals in a gel or liquid carrying agent, which may be water, mineral or vegetable based, designed to increase the frictional contact between the surfaces of tools and components, which material preferably is of the composition: % Boron Carbide More than 20. Silicon Carbide Less than 10. Synthetic Silicate More than 2. Diamond Less than 1. Silver lustre pigment Less than 1. Water or other suspension To make 100.

Description

A TOOL/COMPONENT FRICTIONAL CONTACT ENHANCER 1. This invention relates to a compound which is designed substantially for, but not limited to, improving the degree of frictional contact between a relevant tool and the object to which that tool is applied and which is based on the use of a combination of industrial diamonds and other hard minerals altogether in a gel or similar carrying agent, which may be water, mineral or vegetable based, and which may be packaged in any suitable form for sale to and for use by industrial, engineering and retail/domestic markets.
2. All manner of fastenings, screws, nuts, bolts and components can become damaged by careless or negligent use of tools, corrosion or simple wear and tear in use. This creates difficulty during the effective removal or dismantling of such damaged fastenings, screws and components by virtue of the reduced frictional contact between the tool and the fastening or component.
3. According to the present invention there is provided a compound which is based on the use of a combination of industrial diamonds and other hard minerals altogether in a gel or similar carrying agent, which may be water, mineral or vegetable based and which substantially increases the frictional contact between the relevant tool and the respective fastening, screw, nut, bolt or component. The benefit is equally consistent with removal/dismantling as with insertion/assembly where the fastenings, screws etc. are not damaged from the outset.
4. The introduction of the compound, which is a combination of industrial diamonds and other hard minerals altogether in a gel or similar carrying agent, which may be water, mineral or vegetable based, between the otherwise metal to metal contact of the tool and the fastening/ component, creates a frictional bond between the tool and the component. This frictional bond in the contact allows the breakaway torque - i.e. the point where the pressure at which any firm contact or gripping power ceases to be effective - to be greatly enhanced.
5. The method of application is, by way of example, by dipping the end of a screwdriver into the compound, as described above, where it acquires a coating of minute mineral particles, before attempting to remove the damaged fastening or screw. The application is similar for hexagonal keys, spanners and tools where an extensive grip on the fastening or component is required. The compound, as described above, can be applied to the relevant tool from a tube or dropper bottle. The presence of the minute mineral particles causes the greatly improved frictional bond between the tool and the fastening or component during their removal or assembly.

Claims (1)

  1. A TOOL/COMPONENT FRICTIONAL CONTACT ENHANCER
    1. The use of the compound, which is based on a combination of industrial diamonds and other hard minerals altogether in a gel or similar carrying agent, which may be water, mineral or vegetable based and which may be packaged in any suitable form for sale to and for use by industrial, engineering or retail/domestic markets, promotes the increase in the gripping power between the contact surfaces of the relevant tool and the respective fastening, screw, nut, or component. The additional frictional contact, when the two metal surfaces are put together, is claimed to be increased by as much as up to 500%.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
    1. The use of the compound, which comprises the essential ingredient boron carbide and other hard minerals including industrial diamonds altogether in a gel or similar carrying agent. which may be water, mineral or vegetable based and which may be packaged in any suitable form for sale to and for use by industrial, engineering or retailidomestic markets, promotes the increase in gripping power between the contact surfaces of the relevant tool and the respective fastening, screw, nut, or component. The additional frictional contact, when the two metal surfaces are put together, is claimed to be increased by as much as up to 500%.
