Abstract
An Addressable Fire Alarm System has a control panel 2b able to programme detector devices 6f prior to installing them in the system. The devices may contain information of other devices connected to them. <IMAGE>
Description
FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT
This invention relates to addressable fire alarm systems.
Fire Alarm Systems whereby the location of a particular fire detector can be associated with an address held in memory in the control panel, this means that a fire can be readily pin pointed, however the procedure for giving a detector head an address is a time consuming task and in some systems the use of expensive equipment is required.
Furthermore relatively large amounts of memory are required to store the head locations in the control panel so as to enable the head address to be associated with the true location of the detector.
According to the present invention there is provided a means to program a fire detector via a link between the control panel and the detector before it is installed into its working position and that the detector may contain the locations (addresses) of other devices connected to it.
The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective the control panel with a detector head in the programming position.
The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective the control panel with a detector head in the programming position.
The present invention allows for a detector head to be given a unique address and further addresses of other devices which may be connected to it. The detector may be simply plugged into a socket (not shown) suitably positioned within the control panel 2b, however as a preferred alternative the device to be programmed may be attached via a programming lead la, and the provision of a suitable holder to contain the devices whilst programming is taking place, this could be a shelf in the form of a fold down platform, (not shown) or alternatively the control panel door 3c, suitably hinged so that it forms a horizontal platform when the door 3c is opened.
This would be advantageous for programming other devices which are a different shape than detectors. The information regarding the location of a particular device is input into the control panel via a suitable means, in this example, an alphanumeric keypad 4d, conveniently situated within the control panel 2b.The inputted information stored in the memory of the control panel regarding the address and descriptive location of the device to be programmed is downloaded into the detectors 6f memory, as an aid to imputing the descriptive location key words are held in the control panel for e.g., bedroom / bar / kitchen /etc., in this example 500 bytes of me are allocated to key words these are displayed by accessing specific keys on the key pad 4d for e.g., whilst holding down the shift key and pressing the B key would allow a selection of the stored words beginning with the letter B this may be repeated as required. A visual display 5e is provided to show the inputted information as required by the user. Once programmed the detector contains at true location of its position within the system associated with that particular detector. Furthermore detectors may have additional devices connected, and the locations of theses devices for example, manual call points, magnetic catches etc., may also be stored in memory within the detector head. This removes the need to have electronics associated with the addressing of the add - on device(s).
Claims (5)
