Abstract

A security device (1) which is capable of being driven into the ground, comprises a tapered metal spike with fins (10), and means, e.g. a steel chain link (14) fixed to its upper end, to which steel chains and/or ropes can be attached. The chains can be used for securing vehicles or farm machinery, e.g. tabs (12) can be bent out from the fins. <IMAGE>

Description

SECURITY GROUND ANCHOR This invention relates to a security anchoring device made from steel, that enables mobile caravans, trailers, motor cycles, tractors, farm machinery, boats, inter alia to be chained to the device to prevent them from being stolen.
The anchor comprises a tapered metal spike with a number of special fins so that when the device is installed in the ground it is not possible to extract it.
Security chain or wire rope of variable length is fixed to the top of one of the fins or the underside of the steel cap.
The anchor is installed by driving it into the ground with a hammer, so that the chain links or wire rope remain on the surface.
Figure 1. is an elevation of the device.
Figure 2. is an enlarged underside plan of the device.
The particular illustration on sheet 1 shows four fins, although any number of fins may be used depending on the ground and strata in which it is to be installed.
The aim of the present invention is to provide anchors that may be installed quickly and to which steel chains or wire ropes are attached. The chains and/or ropes may, in turn, be passed round axles, through wheels, chassis, inter alia and locked with a security device such as a chainlock or padlock to prevent the secured vehicles or articles from being removed.
Each fin (10) has slots near the bottom (11) that enable the tabs (12) to be bent away from the plane of the fin. The degree to which they are bent is dependent on the nature of the ground or strata in which the device is to be installed. Similarly the number, size and configuration of the fins may be modified depending on the ground or strata in which it is to be installed.
At the top of one of the fins (10) or underside of the cap (13) a steel chain link (14) or U-shaped steel rod is welded to which variable lengths of security chain or wire rope can be attached.
When the anchor has been installed any attempt to remove it hy pulling laterally is resisted by the passive pressure on the fins by the soil or strata in which it has been installed.
Any attempt to pull the device out of the ground vertically is resisted by the deformation of the steel tabs (12) and resultant reaction from the soil or strata.
Similarly any attempt to pull the device out of the ground at an angle to the horizontal is resisted hy the combined action of the passive pressure on the fins and the mechanical action resulting from the deformation of the fins.

Claims (4)

1. An anchoring device for installation in the ground which is highly resistant to removed by lateral or horizontal force or a combination of both.
2. An anchoring device according to claim 1. to which is attached steel chains or ropes which in turn may be passed round the axle, through a chassis, inter alia of vehicles, trailers, caravans, farm machinery inter alia and secured so that the aforesaid articles cannot be removed when secured by a chainlock, padlock or other security device.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows: 1. A ground anchor device that may be easily driven into the ground as the tabs (12) will readily deflect into the plane of the fins (10) when driven from the top.
2. A ground anchor device according to claim 1. which is highly resistant to being pulled out of the ground by an upward force due to the tabs (12) that will deflect and bite into the surrounding soil when subjected to such a force.
3. A ground anchor device according to claims 1 and 2 whereby the greater the upward force that is used in an attempt to pull it out of the ground the more the tabs (12) will be deflected and bite into the soil increasing the resistance to removing the anchor.
4. A ground anchor device according to claims 1, 2 and 3 that is highly resistant to removal by a combination of a lateral and horizontal force or forces, as the resultant horizontal component of the force or forces is resisted by the passive pressure of the ground acting on the fins (10) and the resultant vertical component of the force or forces is resisted by the mechanical action of the tabs (12) biting into the ground.
