Abstract

A hand held electronic calculator reads bar codes and automatically inputs items and pricing data. A running total of purchases is displayed on an LCD display screen. The bar code calculator is intended to be used by shoppers/consumers.

Description

1) INVENTION FUNCTION This invention is a specially designed hand held calculator that is designed to read bar codes at grocery stores etc.
2! INVENTION SPECIFICATION & FABRICATION PROCESS This invention is fabricated with injection moulded plastic bar code reader electronics, batteries, P.C. board, L C D display, wire, on/off switch and delete switch.
j) The Bar Code Calculator is designed as a special type of hand held calculator with a built in bar code reader used to total bar code sums of grocery and other items. This product would consist of a moulded plastic case measuring approximately seven inches long with the scanner/reader at the head of the square or rounded handle measuring approximately 3" x 2" x 3/4" deep.
The product would be battery operated with no keys except the on/off switch and delete switch.
The product. when turned on could be used to scan grocery products with bar codes attatched.
The calculator would scan with the scanner and build a total within the calculator using a small chip processor and memory unit. A small L C D display on the reverse of the unit wc,uld te used to display the running total. The delete switch would be used to delete the last item scanned to allow for mistakes. A reset button or the on/off switch would be used to set the counter back to zero.

Claims (1)

  1. (l)The bar code calculator is designed as a specialltype of hand held calculator witha built in bar code reader used to total bar code sums of grocery and other items.This product would consist of a moulded plastic case measuring approximately seven inches (175mm)long with the scanner/reader at the head of the square or rounded handle measuring approximately 3inches(75mm) X 2inches(50mm) X 3/4inches(18mm) deep.
    (2)The bar code calculator as claimed in claim 1 is fabricated in injection moulded plastic,bar code reader,electronics,batteries.PC board LCD display,wire,on/off switch and delete switch.
    (3)The bar code calculator as claimed in claim 1 and 2 would scan with the scanner and build a total within the calculator using a small chip processor and memory unit.
    (4) The bar code calculator as claimed in claim 1,2 and 3 would have a small LCD display on the reverse of the which would be used to display the running total.
    (5)The bar code calculator as claimed in claim 1,2,3, and 4 would have a delete switch which would be used to delete the last item scanned to allow for mistakes.
    (6)A bar code calculator, substantially as described, and in accordance with the attached drawing.
