Abstract

229,068. Harries, D. W. Jan. 23, 1924. Ratchet and like step-by-step elevators.-An elevator for a hay loader comprises an inclined frame 9 formed by spaced boards 10 between which laths 11 carried on cranked shafts 12 and provided with tines 15 may move. The cranked shafts are connected at one or both ends by connecting rods 30 mounted on cranks at right angles to the cranks on which the laths are mounted; the lower shaft is driven by chain-and-sprocket gearing from the main axle of the hay loader. The upper portion of the boards 10 is hinged to the main portion and may be swung downwards, its position being controlled by a ratchet arm 16. The lower end of the frame carrying the boards 10 is provided with curved shoes and to maintain these shoes in contact with the ground the forward part of this frame is supported resiliently on the main frame 1 by a spring 18 and a rod 19, Fig. 4. The inclination of the elevator may be adjusted by altering the position of a bracket 22 against which the upper end of the spring 18 bears, the bracket and the corresponding part of the rod 19 being provided with serrated faces which can be clamped together by a screw 25.
