The method may include supporting paste on a shelf, which shelf may be connected to the support member.
The invention may also include any combination of the features or limitations referred to herein.
The invention may be carried into practice in various ways, but specific embodiments will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows schematically in perspective view pasting support apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention,
Figure 2 shows the apparatus of Figure 1 in an alternative configuration,
Figure 3 shows the apparatus of Figures 1 and 2 in exploded view,
Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment of the invention in the form of a kit of parts for forming the apparatus of Figures 1 to 3, and
Figure 5 shows the kit of Figure 4 in packed configuration.
Referring particularly to Figure 1, this shows generally at 10 pasting support apparatus according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The apparatus 10 comprises two plywood rectangular board members 11 and 12 which are joined by screws (not shown) at their upper edges to a plastic connection member 13 which comprises an inverted length of plastic trough. The trough has two substantially parallel vertical faces 13a in use to which the boards 11 and 12 are connected. At their lower edges, the boards 11 and 12 are each connected by screws (not shown) to separate trough members 14 and 15. Additionally, lengths of cord 16 at each end of the boards 11 and 12 connect the boards, to limit pivotal movement of the boards 11 and 12 with respect to each other.
In this configuration, the apparatus is arranged to be suspended substantially vertically from an open door (not shown) such that the two board members 11 and 12 rest on opposite sides of the door and the connection member 13 rests on the top of the door.
In particular, the apparatus may be used for supporting wallpaper during pasting. The trough members 14 and 15 may contain paste or may contain a roll of paper or else brushes or other implements.
Figure 2 shows the apparatus 10 in a free standing mode. The boards 11 and 12 are connected to oblique faces 13b (in use) of the connection member 13 and the apparatus is supported on a floor surface (not shown) by the trough members 14 and 15. The cord 16 limits movement of the boards 14 and 15 apart and thus prevents collapse of the apparatus. Additionally, the elasticity of the connecting member 13 may help to limit movement of the boards 14 and 15 and thereby prevent collapse.
Angled brackets 17 may be used to connect the boards 11 and 12 to their respective troughs 14 and 15, particularly when one of the troughs is full of paste and therefore relatively heavy.
In either the configuration of Figure 1 or that of Figure 2, the apparatus is used by hanging a length of wallpaper (not shown) face down over the boards 11 and 12. Paste, which may be retained in one of the troughs 14 or 15 is then applied to the paper, as the paper is moved over the boards.
Figure 3 shows in detail an exploded view of the apparatus of Figures 1 and 2. Screws 18 are used to connect the boards 11 and 12 to the troughs 13, 14 and 15. In addition, wooden stiffening members 19 may be secured by screws 18 to the edges of the boards 11 and 12 to provide extra rigidity, and also to prevent paste from leaving the pasting surface during application.
The troughs 14 and 15 may be provided with optional end caps 14a, 15a if a trough is to contain paste. Foam pads 20 are provided on the inside surfaces of the boards 11 and 12 to protect the door when the apparatus is used in the configuration of Figure 1.
Turning to Figures 4 and 5, these show an alternative embodiment of the apparatus in kit form. For ease of packaging, the boards 11 and 12 are provided in two parts, 1 lea and 1 lib, and 12a and 12b which are joined by wooden joining members 21 which are secured to the stiffening members 19 to assemble the kit.
Figure 5 shows the kit ready for packaging. In this configuration, the kit can be made to take up minimal space and is thus convenient both for transportation and storage.
The apparatus of Figures 1 to 5 may optionally be provided with an integral paper cutter (not shown) which may be mounted on the apparatus to cut the paper to the desired length. The cutter may take the form of a knife, which may be slideably mounted on the lower end of the pasting surface or on the trough member. The apparatus may also be provided with means (not shown) to retain the paper on the apparatus, such as clips for example. In addition, the apparatus may be provided with integral pasting means (not shown) mounted on the apparatus and arranged in use to deliver paste onto the paper.
The invention provides a versatile apparatus for pasting wallpaper or other material. The apparatus may be mounted on a door or may be free standing according to the space available. The integral paste tray obviates the need for a separate paste bucket and the tray itself also catches any drips of paste from the paper. The apparatus may be provided in different sizes according to the desired use.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made to the invention without departing from its scope.
