Abstract
The door attachment is simply slid over the bottom of the door in the gap between the bottom edge of the door and the floor over which it swings. Vertical movement of the attachment resulting from Flange 8 maintaining contact with the floor over which the door swings seals the gap between the door and the floor, airborne movement at the threshold is restricted when the door is closed. Connection of the attachment to the door is maintained by retainer 9, fixed only to the attachment, extending between the door and jamb on which the door is hung. <IMAGE>
Description
DOOR ATTACHMENT This invention relates to a door attachment.
It is usual for door fitments to become integral to a door as part of its construction or by attaching using established methods of fixing. The effectiveness and security of the fitment often depends on its permanent fixing being sited on the door at its weakest and most accessible location from without.
According to the present invention there is provided a door attachment comprising a channel shaped cradle, reliant for its connection to the door simply by loose entrapment between the bottom edge of the door and the floor over which the door moves when the bottom of the door is freely resting within the channel of the cradle, vertical movement of the cradle, within the limits of the gap between the door and floor on which the cradle rests, occurs as the cradle moves in unison with the door, the cradle provides separate and independent surface to receive upon or about it fitments for use with the door, lateral movement of the cradle arrestable by means of retainer extending from the cradle between the door and jamb.
A specific embodyment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows in perspective an example cradle and an example retainer.
Figure 2 illustrates the invention in position on a ready hung door, lateral movement being arrested.
The attachment comprises a channel shaped cradle, which is positioned between the bottom edge of a door and the floor, the bottom of the door positioned within the channel 8 of the cradle. The face 7 of the cradle can be employed to recieve door fitments using standard methods of fitting.
Claims (5)
1 A door attachment comprising a channel shaped cradle, reliant for its connection to the door simply by loose entrapment between the bottom edge of the door and the floor over which the door moves when the bottom of the door is freely resting within the channel of the cradle, vertical movement of the cradle, within the limits of the gap between the door and floor on which the cradle rests, occurs as the cradle moves in unison with the door, the cradle provides separate and independent surface to receive upon or about it fitments for use with the door, lateral movement of the cradle arrestable by means of retainer extending from the cradle between the door and Jamb.
2 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 wherein its connection to the door is effected by entrapment of a channel section between the bottom edge of a door and the floor over which the door swings, the door resting within the channel section.
3 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 umerein movement of a channel section, when freely cradling the bottom of a hinged door is in unison with, reliant on and co-operable with movement of the door
4 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein a channel section, when freely cradling the bottom of a hinged door is free to move vertically (over the door).
5 A door attachement substantially as described herein with references to figure 1 and figure 2 of the accompanyi@@ drawings.
5 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 and claim 4 wherein the bottom face of a channel section, when freely cradling the bottom of a hinged door, remains in contact with the floor over which the door swings 6 A door attachment as claimed in claim 4 and claim 5 wherein the gap between the bottom of a hinged door and the floor over which it swings is sealed by a channel section.
7 A door attachment as claimed in claim 5 and claim 6 inerein airborn movement under the door, to or from adjacent areas is restricted; the gap between the bottom of the door and the threshold beneath oeing sealed
CLAIMS (continued) 8 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein flanges of a channel section freely cradleing the bottom of a hinged door provides surface independent of the door
9 A door attachment as claimed in claim 1 and claim 8 'therein the surface provided by a channel section is able to receive fitments upon or about it 10 A door attachment as claimed in claim I and claim 2 wherein lateral movement of a channel section is arrestable by means of retainer, extending between the edge of a door and jamb on which it is hinged, and directly connected (only) to the channel section 11 A door attachment substantially as described herein with reference to figure 1 and figure 2 of the accompanying drawings.
Amendaments to the claims have been filed as follows
1 A door attachment comprising a channel shaped cradle, reliant for its connection to and movement in unison with the door simply by loose entrapment between the bottom edge of the door and the floor over which the door moves when the bottom of the door is freely resting within the channel of the cradle, the cradle providing means for the attachement of fittings, for employment with and in whatever position the door is resting, rather than such fittings being fixed directly to either of the door faces.
2 A door attachement as claimed in claim 1 wherein the location and movement of a channel section when freely cradling the bottom of a hinged door is in unison with and reliant on the door
3 A door attachement as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 wherein flanges of a channel s@c@i@@ when freely cradling the bottom of a hinged door provides surface independent of the door.
4 A door attachement as claimed in claim 1 and claim 3 wherein fittings can be attached to one flanges of the channel section
