Abstract

A moulded plastic tank attached to the outer drum of a washing machine, of sufficient volume and strength, so that, when filled with water, it will increase the sprung weight of the washing machine. This will provide the necessary ballast when the machine is in use. The tank is filled by the cold water inlet valve, the overflow from which then fills the drum. The tank can be emptied by the pump out facility of the machine.

HYDRO-BALLAST SYSTEM FOR WASHING MACHINES This invention relates to the ballasting of washing machines, At present, ballast weights employed in washing machines are made from concrete/, and/or iron.
The disadvantaes of which are weight during transit and cost of manufacture and transport, My invention utilises the weight of water to provide the necessary ballast, and cnmprises a moulded plastic tank (or tank of any appropriate material), affixed to the outer drum of the washing machine. This tank is filled via the cold-fill inlet. The tank having been filled, then fills the drum, and remains full during the normal working cycles of the machine, The shape of the tank can be of a confinlration to fit inside ant design of wasting machine and needs to be of sufficient size to provide at least 501bs in weight, i.e. 5 imperial gallons.

Claims (3)

C L A I M
1. A moulded plastic tank for the purpose of containing water to provide ballast weight for a washing machine drum.
2. A moulded plastic ballast tank as in claim 1, to be filled by the cold water inlet valve.
3. A moulded plastic ballast tank as in claims 1 and 2 which fills with water; the overflow from which tank then fills the drum.
4, A moulded plastic ballast tank as in claims 1 2 and 3, which may be emptied by the pump-out facility of the macine, i.e. before transitjrepair.
